Forums - Sales - Nintendo 3DS vs PS Vita Sales

I don't know exactly what's under the Vita front though I think there is some dev kit shenannigans going on under there (such as the bit that would make HDMI out possible even though Sony opted not to do that).

I can certainly see your issue with the right analogue stick if you have larger digits. I personally don't have a problem but my thumbs aren't particularly big.

I used to have an Ambassador 3DS, but sold it for an OOT LE Black and Gold system instead. The Ambassador games were indeed a great addition to the 3DS lineup. I still have my GB Micro for GBA games though. You know what, I take it back, GB Micro is the most perfect portable console ever!

I want more 3D Classics though, I can't wait to try SEGA's 16 bit catalogue with the 3D effect as Excitebike etc worked great with it!

I see where your coming from. But software is irrelevant when deciding the "best" portable console. From a design point the Vita is near flawless.

It also has a better software lineup for me personally than the 3DS. It just doesn't have the big flagship titles to draw a larger audience and Sony have severely failed to demonstrate just how good their system is.

I do have a 3DS too but that's just for Nintendo games.

I'd have to say if you were going to bring software libraries into it, the original GB/GBC/GBA lineup is still the one to beat.

I bet sales numbers are irrelevant too.

Ongoing bet with think-man: He wins if MH4 releases in any shape or form on PSV in 2013, I win if it doesn't.

Well, unless you subscribe to the whole a Ford Fiesta is clearly a better vehicle than a Ferarri Enzo or a Bentley because it's sold more, yes. I guess Economy Class on a flight is also better than Business for First because they sell more Economy tickets...

Sales don't change anything about the hardware/design. Apart from when successive revisions are gimped to cut costs and you end up with the abomination that is the Wii Mini and the revised Vita model :(

The best TVs you can buy certainly come nowhere near close to matching the sales of the best selling TVs.

The issue with this assert is under the idea that the Vita is a PREMIUM device.

Truth is its not. It's got quite a few corners cut, all it has on the 3DS is being a more focused multimedia device that has somewhat stronger innards.

Its failings are all on software

I thought you'd had a Vita? If you think the only difference is being more focused on multimedia and a generational leap in processing power then maybe you had a PSP by accident.

Software failings is a very subjective area. I'd say the 3DS lineup is more lacking and less well rounded than the Vita's, however it has the clout with titles like Mario and Pokemon to compensate for these issues. Vita has it beaten in many genre areas ironically including platform games.

Vita doesnt have enough RPG, or puzzle games(or Mystery games or the general bulk the 3DS has)  and anything worthwhile besides the exclusive it shares with the 3DS.  Shit its library is only worth it, if you havent played the PS1 games, or you want to play handheld versions of ports.

Not to mention I dont like Persona ;P.

Also Tales of Hearts DS > Tales of Hearts Vita

But I prefer Innocence on the Vita
And I hate hate HATE the nubs on the Vita.

I also prefer the 2000 model.

I have a Vita for Soul Sacrifice.

I also had a PSP and frankly that is better than the Vita (Ergonomics and Game Library)

Shit I dont even see having an American Vita as worth it, because of their trippy account network with it, and I'd rather just go into the japanese store. They make importing certain things unnesescarily complicated

Looks to have plenty of RPGs on the way to me??? And yes, I'm happy with handheld ports of home console games because I spend a lot of time commuting to and from work. The fact that the Vita is the first console that has been able to handle such accurate ports of home console games is a massive selling point to me.

But yeah, I prefer racing games which 3DS has a massive gap with. Also FIFA, Vita is a no brainer being the only full fledged portable iteration. 3DS has no FPS/TPS games at all and the indie scene is all at Vita rather than 3DS. Any 3DS/Vita multi platform title Vita is the obvious choice so scrub them from the 3DS lineup too.

Puzzle games it has plenty of, just not retail (to be fair Atelier Series etc and there also a fair few RPGs with a lot more due but also digital only at the moment).

However nothing wrong with having both systems to enjoy the full range. For me 3DS is only worth it for Nintendo titles but it doesn't have the software lineup to go it on it's own and only works as an accompaniment to the Vita lineup because if the game is on both systems, there's no reason to consider the 3DS version unless it's heavily discounted.

I don't play much on my Vita, in fact I have only one Vita game for it, Wipeout 2048. Right after purchasing, Studio Liverpool was closed... my favorite franchise from Playstation dead. And I don't really like the position of the analog sticks, too close to the d-pad and face buttons.

The screen though, is simply wonderful, and the OS is really quick, if you'd like to visit the internet browser and such things it takes just a second. The fact you have to buy a proprietary memory card makes it easy for everyone to know they get good transfer speed and quality, but I guess the price turns even more people off.

But the thing I have used my Vita for the most, is PS1 games. Yes that is the reason I'm holding on to it. I think PS1 games look MUCH better on the Vita than on the TV from PS1/2/3. The resolution and, even more important, size of the screen makes them fit very well. Spyro has never looked so sharp and colorful to me, and I have been replaying more PS1 titles the last year, because of the Vita. But Sony hasn't got much money from me since I bought the system though, all were titles I bought on the PS3 because I can't find some of the discs anymore.. or just rebought them to play on the Vita like the Spyro titles, great value in the trilogy pack.

The only thing I miss on the screen, is 3D ;) And I don't like the rear touch screen either, I turn it off when I have the option. It was cool messing around with it in Wipeout though. But it gets in the way, like when L2 and R2 buttons are mapped to the back as standard in PS1 games. Of course there surely is better uses of it, but as I said I haven't tried out much new stuff on the console, very little that interests me.

So I game much more on my 3DS, since it has the software and games that interests me. I think I've used Streetpass Mii Plaza more than any other game this year, after the DLC games was released. Really close to getting all plaza tickets in Streetpass Garden/Flower Town now, only a few more streetpasses needed. I think the streetpass feature really is innovative (is "Near" on the vita the same thing, only you don't actually get any content? Haven't tried that one out either.)

Yep.

3DS games had racers in its first year, so there is like one.( You also get a deeper sense of speed and depth with 3D on it to be honest)

Honestly though the vita having console ports to me imo is just lesser substance. Only thing worth it on it is the fighting game ports/platformers and some of those are crappy. I buy way more 3DS than Vita games

See the 3DS has fantastic exclusive E-Shop games that I enjoy playing. Vita has a bunch of indie games I can play on my PC or on my WiiU and Sony's first party games dont appeal to me that much. I have like 4 games from them.

And to be honest, I prefer playing Virtues Last Reward and Conception 2 on the 3DS.

I really dont see the point of playing racing games on handhelds either.

I do like using it for PS1 games as the person above noted.
