Forums - Nintendo - Iwata Is Naturally Unhappy With Q2 2014 Results, But Claims Major Overhaul Isn’t Necessary

LOL This guy should go. He is a joke.

"Iwata says that if things don’t turn around this Christmas then Nintendo executives would review the situation to decide what to do about the failing console."

Seems to kinda contradict the title.

I wouldn't fire Iwata, but I would decrease his power and hire someone at NOA who knows what they're doing and has real power to actually do things like greenlight software titles and shape marketing. That person would then be able to work with Iwata to make up for areas in which the Japanese side is deficient. I would also bring on board a high level Western marketing person(s).

The board of directors at Nintendo should be overhauled with younger execs and even Western voices. Too many old Japanese suits who are stuck in 1992 trying to make decisions in a industry geared to 14-32 year old males is a recipe for disaster.

I agree.  Nintendo is out of touch with most western developers not named Activision or Ubisoft.  Even a Japanese transplant who is familiar with Western developers and trends would be a step forward.  Look how well it turned out for Sony with Shuhei Yoshida running World Wide Studios.  Nintendo would do well with that kind of voice in their internal discussions.

Dude's tripping. But its not just him. But as preisdent he should be able to reign in his troops. Every dev at Nintendo (save for Retro) has been given the priveledge to find their inner Picaso, and not bend toward commercial interests. Unreal.

I hope this is just lip service, he can't be that naive.

Why do you say that? Retro Studios claimed that making another DKC game was its own idea. Is it because you dislike DKC and think it impossible for the upcoming game to be awesome?

The biggest problem with the console industry is that it is TOO geared towards 14-32 year old males - and it is the console industry that is stuck in 1992 - and that is why it is stagnating. Wii and DS were a breath of fresh air, as they focused on a broader audience and sold 250 million hardware units between the two platforms; along with 1.6 BILLION units of retail software. Most people who want to play videogames are not 14-32 year old males anymore, unlike 1992.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Is it true he still refuses to revise Wii U hardware estimates?

I disagree i believe in Iwata, changes destroy the company. Iwata worked long in the Company, the Corporate Culture is good, he retrained all top people.

I pray Iwata stays in power, i also wouldnt want to see his power decreased. It would hurt the company long term.

you cant fire him because of wii u thats hilarious, you must think long term. I hope Iwata will stay for long

Most of the board of directors have been replaced by younger people these last 5 years. Only the last board of directors where in their 60's to 70's. It was replaced by a board of directors in their 50's and 60's.

The main problem i see, is that Nintendo seem to understand the japanese market pretty good. Thats why they are completely dominant there. However, they no longer seem to have a deep understanding of the US market. Remeber, during the NES and SNES era they DID have an american director. Time to get Reggie supreme power over NOA?

For NOE, i dont feel Shibata is the right person. Perhaps he should be replaced by someone who have a deep understanding of the euro market? But who would that be? The only one who comes to mind is Phil Harrison, but he's with MS now.

I agree with this. NOE is in need of an overhaul moreso than any other area right now.
