Forums - Nintendo - Would Nintendo make a Wii U SKU WITHOUT the gamepad

Wii U without the GamePad wouldn't be a Wii U.

It would be a Nintendoconsolethatsaverageanddoesn'treallyhaveanythingspecialabovetheconsumerssothereisnorealreasoninbuyingit.

Yep, take out the gamepad, the feature that sets the Wii U apart from the PS4 and Xbox One!

Btw we already had similar threads about this:

Seriously Oniyide? I expected better of you. This thread topic has already been done repeatedly.

Doubtful. They're still pushing Nintendo Land, a game that is entirely unplayable without the gamepad. The whole UI is built around it. The Wii U would require a mighty big patch to change that.

no.

Wii U without gamepad would be a direct competitor to two more powerful consoles and have nothing unique to bring to the table.

The only way we'll see this happen is if Nintendo abandons Wii U and brings out a new console that is within the power levels of its competitors and tosses in just the pro and wiimote controllers.

Personally, that would be stupid IMO. I think the gamepad is awesome and the Wii U is fantastic as is. All its ever needed is games and now they are here and on the horizon.

but are any of those games using the gamepad in a way that makes it essential? Like could they work without it? Cause if not it wouldnt be too crazy for them to make one without it.

Wish they would.

This idea that they need a controller gimmick to differentiate themselves from competition is bogus. The way Nintendo used to differentiate themselves was with the most compelling software. That's the key. Gamepad=Albatross

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.

didnt know we already had threads like this or i must of forget. But it wasnt too long ago the idea of them making a 3ds without the 3d feature was seen as crazy...but here we are. That is all. We can lock this one.

Not an apples to apples comparison. A Wii U without the gamepad would be like a 3DS with one screen.

no no no no no no no no no no no no no and no no no no no no and no no no no no no no no no no no no no

Is that clear for you?

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

but why though? there arent that many games that actually utilize the gamepad in a way that would make it unplayable without it and IMHO i dont see that changing anytime soon. I didnt ask if they would just drop the gamepad, that would be insane, but just have a version that doesnt come with it, for super cheap. Not unlike what they are doing with the 3ds line.
