Forums - Nintendo - I wish Nintendo didn't own the rights to the Pokemon IP

10 hours. Wow sounds like you would have got your moneys worth. Most games no adays dont' last that long and there woudl still be plenty of pokemon game left.

Pokemon constest? Where is teh contest. I'm like 5 gyms in and have yet to see any contest. I know pokemon had contests in past games, but haven't came upon a contest yet in this game.

OH and fyi, you can ignore contests, you can ignore amie, you can ignore boutique, you can not catch the cute pokemon and just use the badass looking ones, you can farm berries, or ignore berries, you can breed, ect, ect, ect. The point is there is a lot to do and complaining about something OPTIONAL is kind of stupid

Nintendo should contact JK Rowling to see how a series can evolve with the audience growing up.

...kill main characters?

No. Make it darker or edgier

You mean boring and emo

Just played a good 10 hours of Pokemon X on my cousins 3DS over the past couple days. I can't stand it. Honestly. It feels like more of the exact same formula I've been playing for 12+ years. It even seems MORE childish than ever. I get that they want the game to appeal to everyone, but what about the gamers that grew up with the franchise? When is Nintendo going to cater to those (now older) gamers?

I'm not saying make this hardcore Pokemon game. But I feel like a little girl playing the game now. It's sad really. Pokemon used to be hands down the best portable game available in my opinion.

Maybe they can make a good Wii U pokemon game. Or an MMO style Pokemon game. Something that doesn't involve dressing up my little pink and cute monsters or entering them into a fashion show.

Thoughts on the current status of the Pokemon games?

NOTE: This does not reflect the sales of the game, as X/Y will easily move 10+ million copies. However, how many of those will be people that grew up with it, rather than the current gen of 5-12 year old gamers?

Sorry to disagree with you, but I am 27 years old, and Pokemon is as appealing to me as it was when I had 13...

As someone who complains about the aesthetic of windwaker.

Pokemon is Pokemon. It's always been childlike and a bit whimsical like Totoro... though admittedly it does feel a bit childish at times. I wouldn't have pokemon any other way, and I look forward to letting my kids play pokemon if the franchise continues it's popularity and fun. I wouldn't want this franchise to change.
The slowdown and not everything in 3D is my main complaint about the new game.

I mean, my brother's girlfriend bought him a 3DS to play pokemon with her as a birthday present. My best friend she plays pokemon. A lot of my other friends play pokemon too. Some of my friends think it's stupid ofcourse, but we aren't so judgemental on eachother, we have lots of things in common but not everything.

I love this new pokemon to death, the most I've loved pokemon since I was like 10 years old.

I think it's the best game since 3rd gen.

best generation since the originals

I find it funny that this topic touches directly on what I said I found most annoying in the thread I started not too long ago.

I think in some ways you are right. They could expand Pokemon into new areas (like a darker MMO), but without losing the standard games. There could be room for multiple adaptations, much like they do with superheroes like Batman.

Um. You do realize the plot of the latest game was to literally KILL EVERYONE right?

You know ala Ragnarok?

Norse Mythology ring a bell?

@OP "No offense", but it really sounds like you've got some serious issues that extend way beyond Pokemon and gaming, if you feel THAT insecure about playing a game that doesn't involve shooting things and naked women.

That may be a bit extreme, but seriously.......Pokemon is one of the highest selling consoles of all time BECAUSE of the way it is. People like it because of the way it is. If it was "more hardcore", it wouldn't be anywhere near as popular. It IS something everyone can enjoy, from a little kid to an old man. It's a game where you make cute monsters fight each other. That's it. What more/else do you want or expect it to be?

Not every game has to be geared towards "mature audiences", and quite frankly, any grown up who has psychological issues with playing "cute", "cartoony", or "kids' games", has a lot more growing up left to achieve than they would like to think. It's about as dumb as people who say they're "too old for cartoons".
