Forums - Sales Discussion - Xbox Live, PSN, Online MMO's - Will Be Officially Tracked by NPD

The NPD Group has begun tracking paid online subscription markets, which should give a better picture of the overall videogames and PC games market.

NPD will now be releasing the quarterly Video Game & PC Game Subscriptions Report, which will provide data on “market size and title shares for paid online subscriptions to videogames and MMO/PC games, gaming Web sites, and videogame console services.”

Millions of Xbox Live Gold subscribers also pay $50 per year for the online service.

While the new report means NPD will track subscriptions, the firm still has yet to track the growing paid downloadable games market.

"Data is drawn from “thousands” of gamers 13 years of age and older who are part of NPD’s 3 million-person consumer panel."

Anyone know who these gamers are?? Cause I can find thousands of gamers on here and neogaf forums and make up my own list.

Thats awesome. Well, at least for the North American territory.

Nintendo & Sony supporter:

 Consoles: Wii & PS3.

It would be nice to know how many people actually purchased Warhawk :P

From 0 to KICKASS in .stupid seconds.

Yeah. I know one thing - I've never paid more than $30 a year for LIVE.

Yet they still won't track DLG or DLC. At least their making progress.... :/

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.

that right there gives every reason not to trust the numbers. Why cant they get Sony, Nintendo, Microsoft, Valve, and EA to give numbers?

Same reason why most MMO's don't give out subcription numbers - Its the type of info you don't want your competitors to know.

Awesome. Will make VG Chartz even more accurate.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

I'm confused...I must be stupid with numbers and economics...why shouldn't Valve tell everyone how much money they're making? Or how many digital distribution sales they've made? How could that harm them? I must not be thinking things through.

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )
