Where did those numbers come from?
According to the latest chart, ending October 12th, 3DS sold above 80k in every one of the three regions: 83K in Europe, 92K in USA and 229k in Japan.

yesterday it showed 73k, they literally just changed it a couple hours agoo!!!
I did some searching around in the Chartz, and I found out how many DS systems were sold during Pokemon Diamond/Pearls's debut in the U.S.
USA Week Ending 28 April 2007
Diamond/Pearl: 1,159,158
DS: 160,820 (+35%)
Last Week: 118,836
Now vs X/Y:
X/Y: 1,306,858
3DS: 86,345 (+97%)
Last Week: 43,776
So I guess there's nothing really unusual about the 3DS's hardware sales this week, but let's wait for the NPD results this month just to be sure.

Ah yes, I forgot that 2DS launched at the same time that Pokemon did. Hmmm, then that's a little strange, even if we only have one day of sales. Maybe the 2DS will be a slow burner until the holidays come, and then it will boost 3DS sales by a large margin. Same thing for Pokemon, I guess. And the NPD results, of course.

You nailed it tbone. 3DS now sits at 105k in the US the week of Pokemon's release.
