Call of Duty breaks records every year, even though it is essentially the same game over and over a few times, but for some reason people keep flocking to the game every year and fork out an insane price because Activision like to rip everyone off.
The executive producer at Infinity Ward, Mark Rubin, has been speaking toOXM recently to say that the reason it does so well is because no matter how many games people play, they feel like they have to play Call of Dutyat some point.
We have an enormous amount of players who are more in the casual game space, but they play a lot. It’s kind of a weird, ironic thing to say.
They aren’t hardcore gamers, or even gamers, but they play Call of Duty every night. And those guys are going to continue to play regardless of platform. So I think not only will we continue to engage with that existing player base, but we’ll take next gen and see how far we can go with it.
Now obviously this doesn’t apply to every single person playing the Call of Duty franchise as a lot of them will venture out into other games as well, but there is some sort of method in Rubin’s madness. The game is portrayed in such a way that it is the most amazing thing in the world, and that is what makes people buy the game, even if it is the only game they will ever end up playing.
Tbere is also eSports which plays a very big part of the Call of Dutyfranchise as well, which probably helps, and those guys definitely are “hardcore gamers.”
It is definitely interesting to see that Rubin thinks that just about everyone will pick the game up though, and that none of them are “hardcore” when it comes to gaming. He might annoy a few people with his comments but it probably is true for the majority of people playing the game.
