Influential? In what way? Playstation 1 was influential, the iPod was influential. I don't think the playstation 4 is remotely influential.

beats by dre!?  Silly list.

Beats changed the headphone industry for ever... great choice.

And about PS4 it made MS change everything about Xbone (180)... how it can't be influential?

@ bolded : so much win xD

Woo, looks like someone isn't very happy about the PS4's place on that list. lol. LOL.

Still, this is a perception survey more than anything. Relative to that, the PS4 is widely seen as the primary factor in the Xbox 180 changes. That's probably true, as well; if Microsoft didn't have competition that looked to be much more well received, they likely would have kept their former course.

Otherwise, it probably shouldn't be on that list. The funny thing is, the PS3 was hugely influential in Blu-Ray winning the format wars, though no one would ever put it on a list like that.

Yes. I agree with ps1, ps2, 360. They brought something new.

Ps4 does nothing new or groundbreaking IMO.

What exactly did the ps2 do that was "new or groundbreaking"? All it did was dominate the market. Influential can mean many things.

Ever heard of DVD?

Yes, but that's not what it is remembered for and certainly not why these 3900 odd gadget fans chose the PS2 as an influential device. DVD could be a factor, but it isn't the only one. In that sense, the PS4 has other factors that can place it on a list such as this.

I wonder if there is a thread on this entire forum where news which can even sort of be inferred as positive for one of the big three does not have a member moaning in it.

Beats are absolute shit. Anyone with any clue about all genres of music knows this, outside of bass heavy tracks they are awful. They are also very badly made.  And no they weren't the first ones to be worn like fashion accessories either.  Beats claim to have 64% of the market, I say that's bullshit.   I will stick with my B&W cans thanks, far superior.

The PS4 didn't influence the one to change, other factors did. Some people reacted badly to the ONE not because the PS4 was different, they reacted that way because the ONE was different.   The ps4 isn't remotely influential. Not even a tiny bit.  It's more of the same in a more powerful box.

The PS4 didn't need to be inherently different in order to present a compelling reason for change. Sony took the advantage and promoted their lack of restrictions as a selling point, putting even further pressure on MS. They didn't need to change anything, you're right. Just goes to show how gargantuan MS's blunder truly was. They might have banked on Sony doing something similar, but promoting the restrictions first left them wide open for a riposte, one that Sony leveraged to maximum effect at E3.

"Some people" You make me laugh.

A strange list... both 360 and ps4 and I wouldn't rate any of them influencial before their release. Actually, the 360 release was pretty crappy and ps4 has a better lineup. The 360 became one of the most important consoles ever released, let's if the ps4 can match it :).

My my..

As I had to explain earlier, Beats' audio quality doesn't bar them in any way from being an influential product - there are better sounding music players than the iPod out there but that certainly didn't stop that  device from being influential - not a very good argument from you there. I think  B&W headphones are overpriced for the sound quality too, for the record, just like Beats ;) Try some Beyers next time you have the chance, some DT880s perhaps. And to dismiss their marketshare by just saying you don't believe it..well, that's not even an argument, lol. And particularly funny considering how ubiquitous they've become on the streets, in trains, around celebrity's necks, in music videos , even as branding on other companies' tech over the past half decade.

And to claim the XB1 has not been affected by the PS4, after everything that's happened, is really putting the blinders on. Your wording is pretty ambiguous - I don't think even you believe it. 'Some people reacted badly' - yeh, the console buying market that is split between the big three - they 'reacted' after Sony clarified their stance post-E3 by hurling bloody indignation in MSes direction and pre-ordering the PS4 instead, or threatening to. If the PS4 had gone with MSes status quo the picture would be very different indeed. Your arguments here basically amount to clapping your hands over your ears and going lalala I'm not listening lalala

All this arguing over some Gadget Show list too, lol, I didn't know they were still around. As for my opinion, I suppose the PS4 has shaped the direction of the console space for the next few years which must be worth something. It won't sell as much as a lot of other gadgets from this year and I bet there's some phone somewhere that has a new feature that's going to blow up into something big next year or whatever, but the unique (slow moving) nature of games consoles means the big three's products have a bigger importance placed on them than most new tech, in terms of influencing their market. And now that videogames have expanded to other platforms the big three's decisions have knock-on effects for those too. Not a bad pick (:

The PS4 didnt do that. A bunch of Sony fans that hate anything that isnt Sony and were never going to buy it to begin with did that. It was the power of the internets not the power of the PS4.

Guess X1 should be on the list since its 8gigs of RAM infuenced Sony to increase what was in the PS4?

Nice story bro

I must ask anyone that can answer: what is it that PS4 has contributed to the gaming industry ahead of its release? I just can´t get my head around it... and if you answer X180: You seriously mean that the only achievment PS4 has made is to focus on its competitor? Seriously?
