Maybe he played the Chinese Famicom bootleg and that's the version they're porting to iOS.  If there is a Chinese Famicom bootleg

... I'm actually okay with this news. Final Fantasy VI was the next one I planned to tackle, so buying it on the Android might not be a bad option (ignoring the fact that I already have it on the Wii VC, anyway...). Still, I certainly wouldn't complain about trying out a slightly updated version, but a lot of it depends on how long I'm willing to wait before I start the game.

The only Final Fantasy game that required grinding was the very first one (or maybe some of the Japan only games too). All others could easily be completed just by fighting the enemies you encounter during the course of the game.

The remake i was looking forward to the most just got me totally uninterested.
Seriously not even a 3D upgrade like they did with 4 and 3???
Not interested at all at the moment in any FF games...
