The original English release was dumbed down for English audiences. They're talking about the much more difficult Japanese version.
Edit: Oh people in this thread dumb.

You're confusing Final Fantasy 6 with Final Fantasy 4. The only two Final Fantasy games that have had major changes for English audiences was FInal Fantasy 4 and Final Fantasy 7.
The first Mako reactor in Final Fantasy 7 was harder and there wasn't a boss in the Japanese version, just regular enemies that appear later in the game. In the US version, a boss was added. That's it when it comes to Japan's version being more difficult. Everything else is additions that the US version had that the Japanese version didn't, not until the international version came out. Example. Ruby and Emerald weapon among other changes.
In Final Fantasy 4, instead of having items that restored each ailment separately, heal items were cure alls. Special character skills like dark sword, remember, prayer, and charge were removed, as well as a few other minor changes like the removal of a summon or two, and some increased HP on some enemies and bosses.
As much as was changed in both of those games, didn't really make much of a difference, because Final Fantasy 4's difficulty on the slightly easier SNES version is negligable compared to the same Super Famicom version. The HP amounts really don't make a difference when one more attack, if that, will kill the enemy.
