Forums - Gaming - My biggest wishes for certain video game franchises

#1- Keiji Inafune  gets Mega Man back:  I want this to happen not only because we would get more Mega Man games, but we would actually get GOOD Mega Man games. Really. Since Inafune left Capcom, we got like one or two shitty games and Capcom called it day. However, the MAIN reason I want Inafune to get Mega Man back is becuase I want him to direct/ produce Mega Man X9/ Mega Man Legends 3. The X games where Inafune wasn't involved in the development were either disappointing ( X5), mediocre ( X6, X8) or just plain bad ( X7). As far as Legends 3 goes, I just really want the game in my hands. It looks  like it had a ton of potential, but Capcom simply decided to fuck over the whole Mega Man franchise for no fucking reason.

#2- Yoshio Sakamoto stays the fuck away from Metroid:  It's sad that the man who created the Metroid franchise is the one who needs to stay away the most from it. Metroid Other M is a mess for various reasons: the awful story, bad voice acting, linear design, awful music, etc.....  A ton of people seem to be asking for a 2D Metroid, but I don't think Sakamoto is  the man to direct such a game.  2D Metroid needs fresh minds. Sakamoto obviously lost his touch and he is not able to direct Metroid games anymore.  Retro Studios is the company that needs to take care of Metroid... Heck, Miyamoto himself said it. Metroid Prime did right what Other M didn't: good story, levels that are good for exploration, memorable music, etc...

#3- Sakaguchi works again on Final Fantasy: Final Fantasy VI and Final Fantasy IX are some of the best  crafted games  I have ever played.  Both produced by Sakaguchi. After IX however.... things started to fall down...  VIII was pretty meh ( wasn't produced/ directed by Sakaguchi), but X is where things really started to get ugly. Look where we are now.... XII, XIII, XIII-2... All lackluster games..... I have high hopes for FFXV, but it is simply not a real FF game. I really hope it will be great, but taking a KH approach can be questionable. Imagine FFXVI produced by Sakaguchi.... That would be the best thing ever...

#4- Mikami works again on Resident Evil: I know Revelations exists, but sadly Capcom won't hire the Revelations team to work on RE7. They will just make another Michael Bay trash game. Remember when Capcom said that  RE6  was going back to the horror roots of RE? Yeah... That turned out to be complete BS. It was even more action than RE5.... and that game was  already VERY hated because of its Gears of War approach. Right now, Mikami is working on The Evil Within and it looks very awesome.. Not sure if it is going to live up to RE standards, but it will be pretty cool..

#5- Kamiya works on Devil May Cry: DmC is not an abysmal game, but it  is very lackluster... The characters were very unlikeable and the combat was watered down by taking away the lock on function and making combos really easy to pull off. Kamiya should  totally work on Devil may Cry again. Why? We will get the good ol' Dante instead of the Emo Dante nobody fucking likes. Also, the combat will be improved and combos will be very hard to pull off. I can't pull off big combos in DMC1 and DMC3 that easily to be honest.  Those games tested my skills. That's why they were awesome. DmC is watered down and unlikeable.

#6- Sonic Team keeps doing what they are doing right now: Since Colors, the Sonic franchise has been going nicely! No  complex stories that can be dumb at times or always( Adventure 2, Shadow the Hedghehog, Sonic 06) and no dumb gimmicks that nobody asked for ( Unleashed, Black Knight), just good old speedy gameplay with exploration, likeable characters, colorful graphics and awesome music. That's what Sonic should be about.. Not trying to be dark and edgy with guns or with repetitive God of War style gameplay.... That shit simply doesn't belong in a Sonic game.....

#7- The old Castlevania team comes back: With the lackluster Lords of Shadow somehow becoming the best selling game in the franchise ( guess people love ripped off God of War gameplay and QTEs up the ass), the old Castlevania team is done. They are done.  We got some crappy Lords of Shadow game for 3DS that doesn't even hold a candle to Dawn of Sorrow/ Portrait of Ruin and we are also getting Lords of Shadow 2 since Lords of Shadow was soooooooooo good!  Say goodbye to good 2D Castlevania games! They are gone! While we never truly got a great 3D Castlevania game ( the PS2 games were decent at best), Lords of Shadow is almost as boring and bland as the N64  Castlevania games! That is saying a lot! A LOT! Linear gameplay, ripped off gameplay, QTEs up the ass.. Those are the things that describe LoS the best. A lackluster Castlevania game.

Those are my main wishes. Other wishes include:

#1- Original Silent  Hill team comes back: Silent Hill Downpour.... Enough said..

#2- Miyamoto gets less creative control over Paper Mario: Sticker Star.... Enough said..

#3- Kamiya works on a Star Fox 64 successor:  The man makes great action games and seeing how he is a huge fan of Star Fox 64, A Kamiya directed Star Fox game would most likely  lack  Zelda style gameplay which is AMAZING. Adventures and Assault were medicore. Hire Kamiya to work on Star Fox Wii U!

#4- Kirkhope's team works on Banjo Threeie: Nuts & Bolts.... Enough said..

#5- Naughty Dog  works on Crash Bandicoot and Insomniac on Spyro: When was the last time we got a good Crash game?  1999? 2000? When was the last time we got a Crash Bandicoot game? 2008. Exactly. The franchise is irrelevant and only ND can make it relevant again. Spyro is also pretty much dead. Activision used him to promote Skylanders and then they ditched him. Spyro is also an example how the series  became shit the moment Insomniac decided to stop working on Spyro..

idk what the hell happened with Sakamoto. Fusion was awesome, but Other M was horrible.

and that bit about ND and Crash Bandicoot, i don't think Naughty Dog is the type of studio to make a Crash Bandicoot game anymore, they do mostly realistic, cinimatic games now.

Nobody truly knows... I still can't believe how the person that directed Other M also directed  Super Metroid.

Halo - bring back Firefight, get rid of Spartan Ops

Good list!
I agree with every point, except the one that Mikami should go back to RE. It needs new blood, and The Evil Within looks like it has absolutely no personality of its own. I want a RE reboot, but I want it to be made by a fresh, talented developer

Gonna takle ones I know about.

1 & 2 together.  As #2 proves, just bringing someone back doesn't mean the series will be great again.  Maybe megaman just can't be made great again.  who knows what style would be best for it.  A 2D game like old, a 3D shooter, a mix?  What aspects of each's genre.  You can't just copy/paste old megaman to new.  Things have changed in the industry and without trial and error you won't know what would work for Megaman.  And just as Metroid Other M showed, the original creater may not be the magic touch that fixes all.  Metroid went back more to its roots compared to Prime yet is a failure compared to prime.  Other people made metroid better than its creater.

3. Money.  we are no longer in the age where a good producer can do all he wants.  Lets imagine 6 and 9 didn't exist and FF16 and 17 were going to be 6 and 9 just now in todays world.  HD ect.  They woudl not be the same game.   you just can't create all that stuff for one game.  It takes an insane amount of time to do anything now compared to back then.  Look at the NPC's for say 6 and compare to now.  You could make 100 npc's in 5 minutes for FF6.  how long you think it takes ot make 1 npc nowadays.  No RPG will be as big or expansive as they were in the old days.  It's just not financially plausable.  No director will change that.

4. I also wish RE went back to more horror/suspense than the generic alien shooter (face it zombies are just a reskin of aliens in these new games).  Even though I don't relaly play RE games. To stressfull for me.  I can't handle being on the edge of my seat in suspense that I'm going to get scared at any moment for too long and thus usualy don't get too far in any of those games.  It's too tiring being on edge, lol.  But I do like variety in genres and sad to see a genre fall by the wasteside in order to try and "catch COD crowd" as is used in these days.

5. yea Sonic looks like a great company right now.  Hoping the sales do good enough that they don't change thier formula.

6. Adventures wasn't a bad game, just had some bad mechanics in it.   If they added a few things and removed a few things it would have been a great game.  Such as making the flying actually a good thing and not a side thought, feels like a mini game.    I think your again stuck with the thinking "original developer = success"  I hear more often that someone needs to let someone else take over the series than, success stories of original developer coming back and creating instant success.  Star Fox can go in multiple directions, whether it be pure flight, pure ground, or mix.  They just need to not add pointless things to either.  I for one hope a star fox game has a great flying segment, cause in need of a good space flying game.  been a lack since star wars decided to drop that genre.

The rest don't play or don't care.

I'm just going to focus on #2 if that's OK, since it's become my lot in life to defend Other M :P

Sakamoto co-created Metroid and, in a very real way, he's one of the only people on the planet who really knows who Samus is. I think much of the criticism leveled at Other M from fans is rooted in our own conceptualization of Samus, based on our own imaginations. Since the premiere game in 1987, we've had to fill in a lot of the blanks ourselves, after all.

I, for one, think Sakamoto did an excellent job with Other M, just as his did an excellent job with Super Metroid, Fusion, and Zero Mission. I see no reason to remove him from future Metroid projects. For the record, I have no problem with Retro Studios. Personally, I think that all three Prime games are better than Other M. But Sakamoto isn't the toxic director that some have made him out to be. He's still capable of making a great Metroid game, if he chooses to.

Just my two cents.
