What is GOTY

GTA V 186 26.80%

LASt OF US 457 65.85%

something else (specify) 51 7.35%

Total:694

tlou
it is something new and fresh
better graphics
better story

gta5
-the story is crap.not half as good gta4.some kind of typical wannabe tarantino with a bunch of psychopaths for simple minded using a stupid cliche plot to justify missions.Very dissapointing.
-one huge city instead of several smaller one= bad for orientation and motivation.Exploring nature and urban areas while driving from one city to another with a different style was very motivating in san andreas. In Los Santos there is no reasons or motivation to leave this city.
+/-Graphics aren't as good as shown in the trailers and not as good as eg infamous2,but good for an open world game.

+Missions are real good.
+gameplay mechanics and especially driving cars improved.
+A lot of to do beside the story line.Sadly wasted tons if potential by not implementing boat/car/triathlon/bike/plane races golf + tennis tournament as sidequests.I don't rate this as a negative as this game offers much but it is sad not using these potential.

Numbers alone should put GTAV above in votes. So many have already played it without laying a finger on TLoU. Quality is subjective but numbers aren't.

Are you saying CoD was the GOTY for the last few years?

BioShock is no longer a contender?

Nor should it be, infinite was overrated. Stroy was OK but convoluted, the gamepaly was...meh.

In your opinion, which is BTW, objectively wrong.

Probably GTAV for me, for the sheer amount of content.

While I still can't make a complete assessment yet (since I haven't tried Grand Theft Auto Online yet), after playing through Bioshock Infinite, The Last of Us, and Grand Theft Auto V at least once each (recently finished GTA V's single player campaign), my personal vote for Game of the Year is currently going to The Last of Us. Despite the sheer amount of content in GTA V, After finishing it, I strangely didn't have as much desire to replay it, unlike TLOU where I immediately did another playthrough on survivor (I stopped playing Infinite midway through my 1999 run).

It could still change, depending on how GTA Online turns out (as well as Beyond: Two Souls), but for right now, TLOU has my vote.

Is it sad that I own The Last of Us, but I haven't even taken the plastic seal off yet? My backlog is ridiculous.

I am the Playstation Avenger.

The Last of Us. And I say it without even playing GTA V. Yes, I'm that confident :D

And you are right. I've played both games, TLOU 6 times and GTA5 once for 8 hours and sold it.

That may be a little extreme I guess GTA V is a very good game, by the looks of it at least. Still TLoU is probably the best game I have ever played, can't believe I would be graced to play a better game in an foreseeable future, that would be too good to be true :D

I just found GTA5 dull. Perhaps I'm fatigued by the series, I don't know, but 'every single' mission bored me to death. TLOU gripped me from start to finish and I Couldn't wait to meet Joel and Ellie again, hence the 6 playthroughs.

I don't think its necessarily series fatigue as much as its genre fatigue.

I haven't even been an avid GTA fan even though I've played a lot of GTA3 and Vice City with very briefly GTA4 and now like 80% into GTAV.

However I have played Sleeping Dogs, Just Cause 2, Saints Row 2, Mafia 2 etc (Hell I could partially throw in RDR there too if it wasnt for the vast difference in setting), all to a certain extent and well.. yeah.. the sandbox stuff just doesn't entertain quite as much as a gripping story does. I have to restrain myself from completing a story with great narrative since I will really struggle to NOT finish it instantly whereas sandbox games have me be able to turn them off at any point really.

I guess taste comes into it too.

GTA 5 IMO is an amazing sandbox, with a very impressive attention to detail. The problem is it suffers from a case of quantity > quality at times. Much of the things to do in the game are mundane, pointless and you forget about after doing it once........ Many things (LIke owning businesses) are woefully underdeveloped.

I guess it is the nature of Open world games, does many things but is a master of none.

Yeah, I can see that as a possible answer too. This is one of the reasons I'm just a little sceptical about Assassins Creed: Black Flag. The bigger open worlds get, the more confusing and diluted the narrative gets. Unless side quests, errands or collectables have some 'real' impact on gameplay/story, then I always get bored with them within a few hours. Collecting Ellies comics would be the perfect example of making collectables relevant while collecting Firefly emblems would be the opposite (although I did eventually look locations up on the net for that and got them all).

I'm really interested in The Witcher 3 though. If it lives up to expectations and delivers on side quests, then it might be the first open world game I want to just 'experience' in a long while. If it's anything like Skyrim, I'm out though.

The PS5 Exists.
