I don't think its necessarily series fatigue as much as its genre fatigue.

I haven't even been an avid GTA fan even though I've played a lot of GTA3 and Vice City with very briefly GTA4 and now like 80% into GTAV.

However I have played Sleeping Dogs, Just Cause 2, Saints Row 2, Mafia 2 etc (Hell I could partially throw in RDR there too if it wasnt for the vast difference in setting), all to a certain extent and well.. yeah.. the sandbox stuff just doesn't entertain quite as much as a gripping story does. I have to restrain myself from completing a story with great narrative since I will really struggle to NOT finish it instantly whereas sandbox games have me be able to turn them off at any point really.

I guess taste comes into it too.

Yeah, I can see that as a possible answer too. This is one of the reasons I'm just a little sceptical about Assassins Creed: Black Flag. The bigger open worlds get, the more confusing and diluted the narrative gets. Unless side quests, errands or collectables have some 'real' impact on gameplay/story, then I always get bored with them within a few hours. Collecting Ellies comics would be the perfect example of making collectables relevant while collecting Firefly emblems would be the opposite (although I did eventually look locations up on the net for that and got them all).

I'm really interested in The Witcher 3 though. If it lives up to expectations and delivers on side quests, then it might be the first open world game I want to just 'experience' in a long while. If it's anything like Skyrim, I'm out though.
