Forums - Nintendo - How important is this Holiday season for Nintendo?

3ds have no competition so no comments on that part. It is very important for wii u though.

Anyway, people don't seem to miss how crucial the holidays are for sony and ms. they have their next consoles releasing and unlike wii u, if they can't keep momentum from the holidays, they won't have a year without competition. if they can't catch on fire now, wii u will steal marketshare day after day as they try to recover in 2014, wich is the most probable scenario if you consider software and price.

Its gonna be an uphill battle... If Super Smash Bros or Mario Kart were out... I could see the wiiU being sold like crazy but its gonna be hard with just Donkey Kong Country, Super Mario 3d World and Sonic Lost Worlds... Specially with the hype that ps4 is gonna be... The only way I think they might sell is if the ps4 gets sold out

With that being said... 2014 is defiantly gonna be the year of the wiiU

the people buying ps4's in 2013 wouldn't buy any other system so I don't think it can affect wii u sales. after he holidays is a different story.

If Nintendo can sell Wii U's and 3rd party titles it will be a major victory, and help with 3rd party support for next year. Now really is the time. If they don't, they'll have some trouble unless the other new systems also falter.

true. if games like batman, AC4, ghosts and watch dogs reach the nice 500k line, it will be a great incentive for third parties. you can expect ubi imedeately confirming the crew and the division if that happens.

Ds will do fine. The wii u will sell as well as a console of its calibur can sellin the fourth quarter.it will get destroyed by the other next gen consoles.

You're going to have to quantify this. Otherwise it feels like a hit-and-run.

seriously? you didnt realize i wasnt talking bout me? a guy with a Ogre battle64 avatar and pokemon and KHearts3D as its current games

this damn society of jerks and yokels demand CoD GTA and FIFA and thats what sales reflect, its sad but we better start dealing with it and accept the future as it is...sad

Stop being so insecure about the position nintendo is in by judging people who like popular games. people who want a console with primarily nintendo first party will buy their console. People who want a proper dose of first, second, and third party will buy the opposition. They've trained their fanbase well outside of the ds arena not to respond well to third party.

This holiday is very important for Nintendo, but is not a make or break situation yet. 2014 will the the make or break point for the Wii U.

Dude......Nintendo squandered their opportunity at a great lead over the competition.  Sony themselves are well over twice of Nintendos preorders and probably at three times that by now. All we can hope is thay Nintendo survives the dual launch of the next gen hd twins. In terms of exclusives nintendo will not outshine them in 2014. Hope people want mario trademarked items more than Sony and MS first and second party as well as the top third party AAA titles that not only hardware wise but on principle they'll never be able to touch.

In 2014, 2 of the biggest Nintendo IPs will launch, Mario Kart 8 and Smash Bros. If neither of those game do anything for the console then it's pretty much over. This holiday won't decide the Wii U's fate.

Also we don't know much about PS4 and Xbone games after launch, and we also don't know all the tittles Nintendo will launch in 2014, so saying Nintendo software won't outshine Sony and MS software is speculation, not fact.

with all the exclusives wii u already has for 2014 i think it will be nearly impossible to outshine. there are games to be announced for ps4/xone in 2014 but the same applies to wii u.

3DS will do ok this holiday season. Probably not as much as last year but it'll be fine. The WiiU - I don't see how Nintendo can turn it around.
