Consoles have almost never had better graphics after when windows came into place. Nvidia is only mad as per usual due to the fact that AMD is in a position to threaten nvidia.
Consoles might not be able to beat Multiplatform Games in Graphics but consoles has exclusives developed by Top game developers along with these exclusives have Platforms, adventure, action IP's etc., whereas PC exclusives are not. However, due to consoles having close to PC architecture now every PC game is also coming to consoles.
So, Feel Emotions, Experience Adventure/Action, Challenge Game, Solve puzzles and Have fun.
PlayStation is about all-round "New experiences" using new IP's to provide great diversity for everyone.
Xbox is always about Online and Shooting.
Nintendo is always about Fun games and milking IP's.

Yet your buying 4 AMD R9 290X at likely $500. I don't think price is the culprit. |
The 290X should be about $750-$800ish each here (Same launch price as the 7970), which should be very competitive to Titan, which here is $1,200 - $1,300 each, you do the math. :)
That extra $1,200+ is better in my pocket than some overseas company.

Oh right you live in australia, AKA overpriced land plus nvidia is known to jack up the prices for their worthless titans.

It's actually not nVidia's fault that prices are higher here on hardware, it's all the importers!
Generally when a new graphics card series is launched most of the worlds importers will allocate most of the units to the United States as it's a larger territory and thus more guaranteed sales, from there if other countries like say... Australia are lucky enough, they will be allocated a small amount, from there the importers can then assume that demand will outstrip supply in this particular territory and thus jack up the prices, even with card prices the way they are on launch, they always still seem to sell out almost everywhere.
Eventually prices settle to more US of A levels and everyone goes home happy.
Retailers themselves actually have very slim profit margins and taxes aren't really *that* much higher than the USA.
We also get paid more. ;)

And they still had to make large cutbacks to get it to run on X360. The Witcher 3 is their next gen game that is not even possible on PS360, massive open world with astounding level of detail, huge leaps in animation, and a dynamic and reactive world. And even that is still an early game for next gen. |
No, I actually agree that TW is not a technical marvel. Which is exactly my point - the PS4 games won't be the "technical marvels" that you seem to expect. They'll be incrementally better that current gen games.
Buying a gaming PC was probably one of the better decisions I made, even though I still game a lot on console.
*Can play all the games not on PS3
*All them RTS and Strategy games
*Any games my friends want to play
*Piracy allows me to have free access to all the singleplayer games I want (Idontcarewhatanyonethinks)
*I have a PC fantastic for schoolwork and video editing
*All basic tasks are really fast and nice with a powerful PC

But there will be games that are technically far more advanced than the Witcher 2, in fact there already are. The Witcher 3 looks to be a lot more technically up to date than 2 was tho, and it looks bloody impressive and it's constantly improving as they add new features. It seems pretty odd to use a 2 year old game that wasn't technically groundbreaking (tho with outstanding art) as an example of the lack of technical advanacement in next generation games that aren't even out yet. Developers are constantly coming up with new tricks and effects to produce better resaults.
