It's actually not nVidia's fault that prices are higher here on hardware, it's all the importers!
Generally when a new graphics card series is launched most of the worlds importers will allocate most of the units to the United States as it's a larger territory and thus more guaranteed sales, from there if other countries like say... Australia are lucky enough, they will be allocated a small amount, from there the importers can then assume that demand will outstrip supply in this particular territory and thus jack up the prices, even with card prices the way they are on launch, they always still seem to sell out almost everywhere.
Eventually prices settle to more US of A levels and everyone goes home happy.

Retailers themselves actually have very slim profit margins and taxes aren't really *that* much higher than the USA.
We also get paid more. ;)
