Forums - Nintendo Discussion - WiiU hardware sales seem to have gotten a pretty good boost with the price cut + WW HD bundle.

That's a misconception that pervades the internet apparently^ It well outpaces last generation. If it didnt the quick and dirty ports would look even worse. Warriors Orochi 3 Hyper is a literal code dump ( absolutely nothing was done with it)

Thats the worst a WiiU game will get.

The WiiU's price is what it is because of how they built it, its an extremely compact, customized design, shit they even went with their method of storage, because it creates less heat and draws less power, with a significantly lower fail rate than other types of memory. (Its also rather expensive hence the 32 gb offered)

Sony is taking a loss on their hardware sure, but its because of what they bundle in the box. ( which is why they expect to make good on it very quickly)

It's too bad no consumer really cares about any of this. It's a home console, not a handheld. Whatever power savings the console makes is probably undone by the fact that the controller needs to be constantly recharged every 3 hours of play.

To be honest it's not even *that* quiet, it's about the same as the PS3 Slim from my experience.

They should've just made a console about the size of an NES (seriously, what's wrong with that?) and made sure the chip was (way) better than the PS3/360 rather than worrying about power consumption. You can bring down the size/power consumption of a console over time.

Spending so much R&D and making the system more expensive than need be for an obsession about low power draw ... honestly who cares if the system draws 60 watts instead of 33 watts? Not even Japan cares.

Who said anything about it being quiet? The only time its not quiet is when there is a disc in there, which you wont hear with the TV on. I dont know why its always spinning when its not being played though ;/

People do care about the space and machine efficiency/reliability, at least in Japan they do. Someone always mentions their space concerns to me when they talk about getting new consoles, along with them not being backwards compatible.

The chip set is way better than the PS360. Hell the devs cant even get the full power out of the 360 because of the PS3, and the WiiU is much better than both of them.

See even Sony is doing the same thing, ( look at their design for the PS4)

There is a reason no developer has made those comparisons after the initial launch period. Contrary to what some may believe the WiiU isnt a souped up Xbox 360 either.  Its an amalgamation of hardware design, if anything its kind of like a BMW while everything else is a first class Dodge RAM.

The reason the Gamepad costs anywhere near that 60$ anyway is due to the functionality and what they packed into it. ( The screens, the flawless streaming, the nfc, the screen density) Also why the battery only lasts 3 hours(good thing they made it so you can replace it)

I don't think people in Japan care either.

The PS2 trounced the GameCube there despite being the bigger console.

The PS3 outsells the Wii U there fairly reliably.

There's nothing wrong with a console the size of a PS2/NES ... that's compact enough, wasting R&D dollars and settling for a more expensive chip with less horsepower under the hood to gain a smaller casing was silly.

Even if you live in a Hobbit hole, having a console the size of PS3 Slim even isn't a big deal, especially when consoles these days can be positioned vertically.

I mean I don't think anyone's advocating for Nintendo to release something the size of the PS3 Phat, but really what's the benefit of making so many compromises in design and spending so much extra money to get something smaller than an NES or PS2? Both of those console's were fine size wise.

PS2 was good design, just look at the PS4^

They do care, especially now.

Which is my point.

There's zero benefit to a console being smaller than a PS2 (original) or even an NES size is more than acceptable.

To be honest I think the XBox 360 Slim is a fine size also.

They should've just gone with a 50-60 watt console with a reasonable sized casing and used a more off-the-shelf but modern AMD GPU and blown the PS3/360 out of the water. No one cares about electrical consumption as long as its not ridiculous.

Spending all that time, R&D, and hardware budget on making the console as small as possible for day 1 and at such a low power draw is giving into bizarre design fetishes rather than giving the consumer something that actually want.

Why should they have done that?
How would using off the shelf have helped Nintendo if they werent using X86? Nah that isnt how Nintendo does things themselves. They had AMD make this with them, they did it for a reason, we'll see why in the future. Nintendo just doesnt decide to sell things at a loss.

You should probably go read what I posted above anyway

No one cares if your console only consumes 33 watts (especially when the controller sucks 20x more juice than a normal controller).

At the end of the day it's just a poorly conceived piece of hardware and very much out of step with what consumers and developers wanted for 2012. The controller isn't exciting people and power consumption in a console is about the 50th highest priority that a consumer has when choosing between consoles.

What's done is done now though, Nintendo has to best be able to salvage this mess starting now, and I hope they can do something with it, but they have really made it difficult on themselves. Nintendo fans have to come through and start supporting this thing.

Some of these freaking kids that got Wii as their first console need to stick around and not go running to GTA and "Calladooty!" now that they're a little older and trying to be cool. That's a challenge too ... the kid who was eight or nine when he got his Wii in 2006/2007 is 14-16 now and they are thumbing their nose at the Wii U. It's tough.

Well the people who own one seem to like it^  The WiiU's issue is the percieved value, just like the Vita's. Except the Vita's been out for longer, so it needs to establish some traction somehow.

Call of Duty is on the WiiU by the way ( and on the Wii)

Actually you can trick someone into buying the system by adding the fact that it consumes less power( even though it has a huge ass brick for a power draw ) anything that can be percieved as a plus helps in trying to persuade someone .

Most people bought it for Nintendo games, I don't think anyone really cares about the power consumption of the console. I have one, and finally convinced my brother to buy one after pushing him on it for two months, I tried to get another Wii-friendly friend to bite, but so far no dice, but I've more than done my part. Hell, I even bought Wonderful 101.
