Wii Sports Club has just been announced, and is launching in less than two months on Nov 7, just in time for Christmas.  It's a download title where you can download each sport for $10, or buy day passes.  It's got online, you can form MiiVerse clubs and compete with other clubs, leaderboards, etc, and supports Motion+.  It seems like this is one of the titles Nintendo was "hiding" as to not be copied.  Perhaps for the business model moreso than the gameplay.

Will this title be huge?  A system seller?  Is the business model smart?

Ohman! Nintendo not messing about. They just need to market the hell out of this. This holiday is just going to be sick for "get togethers" either we're talking family or friends.

We have what for social local gaming this holiday?

*Nintendoland
*Wii Karaoke U
*NSMB.U & NSLU
*Wii Party U
*Wii Sports Club

Am I forgetting something?

The original was humongous! The fact that you can download the sports that you want is a nice addition. Personally I think it could be massive! Too bad we won't get sales data of this title here on VG Chartz.

Yeah. It should get a retail release. Ohwell.

Wii Sports and Sports Resort combined sold 1.2 million copies so far this year. Resort in particular has, despite being mostly not bundled, sold more than NSMBWii, plus PS3 and 360 versions of moderate sized games like Injustice and Dead Space 3. Even if we have a Nintendogs situation where 90% of sales are lost within a generation, that would easily make this a 3-million seller at retail if that's how it were being sold.

What's more interesting is how Nintendo is selling this: a $10 sku for a deluxe version of a sport, or $2 for a mode that gives you a full party's worth of fun. This may not sell consoles, but it will convince Wii Fit U and NintendoLand buyers to spend money on the eShop. And if there is a retail release, it's an easy million seller.

it won't be huge,. the downloadable only status pretty much guarantees that. nintendo should have a full retail release with all the content too.

...but i've got to say, i (as a consumer) like the per sport download and day pass options. i would totally go for that over a full retail but nintendo needs the full retail presence if they want to reach casuals.

Nintendo are shooting themselves in the foot by making it downloadable only.
A retail release is needed for it to push systems.

Wish it was retail.
But couldn't they still market the game regardless if it is digital?

i dont buy digital
