Forums - Gaming - Whats wrong with parents? Eleven year old child in France gets GTA 5 and freaks out

I played Fahrenheit back in 2005, so I was 11. I don't see a problem playing games that are not aimed at you. We all have done it (yup, I'm going to generalizate on this one), and trust me, my mother was very conservative about my videogames. But I knew my way around to play without her noticing!

Yeah, lol. See the bold as to why there need to be more educated parents.

I don't get what's suppose to be wrong here.
The only thing that bothered me a little was the kid actually crying for joy like this over a game, but then again he's 11 and there's all sorts of context that could explain it.

Where I'm from it's never been an issue for kids to play any type of video game or watch any type of movie under parental supervision. I was 12 when I first put my hands on Kingpin: Life of Crime and started bashing people's skulls in and 13 when I was shooting off limbs in Soldier of Fortune. This is way past the age when I understood the difference between right and wrong and fiction and real life.
I thank my parents for my extremely open minded upbringing. Explain things properly to a child and they will understand very early on that the actions portrayed in certain video games or movies are not acceptable in real life.

You're looking at the wrong type of person, dude. I'd rather be a parent whose child plays videogames not aimed at him (It's not like we've never seen a movie or a TV serie not aimed at us either!) than a child who verbally abuses their classmates because I raised the child to be as an egomaniac asshole.

EDIT: we're childs. The fact that IT IS NOT AIMED AT US is what makes us feel  looking forward trying it.

Awesome video.

People shouldn't be so narrow minded as to say they know what kids can or cannot be playing. Everyone is different. Just because you might withhold things from your children or had things withheld from you as a child does not mean everyone should follow suit.

And of course if something bad happens with some kid and he happened to play GTA or CoD, they will be blamed. Just like it used to be Marilyn Manson, or movies, etc etc. It's a cycle that repeats itself over and over. Who cares.

Why is a French kid playing GTAV before me?

Seriously though I don't get the big deal. When I was his age I played M rated games all the time.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

People seem to think it's bizzare when 11 and 12 year olds play high rated games, it's actually quite common and generally fine. When I was around that age I played M rated games and so did everyone I knew.

This.

I was very young when I first got San Andreas.

Rebellion against a system that works for all parties involved is a problem, I guess.

But you're agreeing with me, then. Rebellion is an integral part of being a child. However, I don't agree with the later statement. How do you know the system works?

I started playing GTA when I was 8 or so. But even at that age I and some of my friends who would also play it at that age would be mature enough to know that the game was not real and leading a life like in the characters of GTA is illegal and you end up going to jail or dying...on the other hand this kid does not look mature enough to do it just based off of his reaction.

With the internet, kids can watch porn..and who knows maybe come across 2 girls 1 cup at some point. Those things are far worse than GTA. Kids can also watch very violent movies like Saw and Hostal, and again far worse than GTA.

Every media suffers from what video games are currently suffering, only that video games are an easy target because of cases like this and that video games are still view as toys for a lot of people. You don't see a lot of people blaming movies, but you do see them blaming video games, they are just the easiest target and parents don't want to admit there's something wrong with their kids, so it must be someone else's fault.
