Forums - Sales Discussion - August 2013 NPD Thread! - 360:96k

From NeoGaf (Visualante2):

Poor sales all around. Virtually zero increase for the Wii U from the previous month (29k). What was VGChartz's number for Wii U?

Around the Network

360: 96k - 47k overtracked
PS3: 71k - 39k overtracked
Wii: 33k - 4k overtracked
Wii U: 31k - 18k overtracked

3DS: >130k - 3k overtracked or spot on
Vita: less than 31k - It's close to Wii U so 1-3k overtracked?

I'm thinking the Wii U basically needs the price cut + Mario 3D World + Mario Kart 8 just to get up to GameCube numbers at this point.

The GameCube is kicking the Wii U's ass hard in the US, launch aligned, this month (August 2002) the GameCube sold 128k for example versus 31k ... that's more than 4x more.

with ps360 losing sales wii u comes closer without increasing the own sales! lol

Didn't some games come out on the wii u? How did it not increase at all?

A big hurrah for Xillia :)

Do we know HW sales for 3DS yet?

The Wii still outselling the WiiU :(

Wii U was apparently 29k the previous month so if it go to about 30-35k this month (as it seems by that pie chart) then Pikmin 3 and Splinter Cell (bomba) basically provided almost no hardware boost.

That can't be good. Zelda bundle next month + price cut + Rayman *must* bring hardware sales to at least 100k or more IMO.

Price cut comes on the 20th, meaning that for more than half of the month the sales will be horrible, especially in expectations of the price cut. 100k is way too much considering the circumstances.

Because it's a niche console with very limited appeal. It's basically for those who must play Nintendo IP in 2006-era HD visuals and a controller novelty that is catching no one's attention. Basically Nintendo banked the entire console on a controller (again) like the Wii, but this time no one cares about the controller they came up with.

And $350 is way too expensive for what the system is.

I *think* with the price cut and Mario 3D World + DKC + Zelda: WW HD, the Wii U could have numbers more in line with what the GameCube was selling, but that's almost like a best case scenario at this point.

Pikmin 3 was basically the only big game. Everyone with common sense knew that the game wouldn't increase the HW numbers by much, given that the franchise is not really popular and the game's performance in Japan.
