Forums - Sales Discussion - Why do Xbox 360 games sell so much better than PS3 world-wide?

Rankstrail said:
Maybe because of PS Plus and maybe not every ps3 owner buys ALL the main stream games.
For example: american people buy a lof of shooters right? European people a bit less, in some genres american sales (country with more 360s sold than ps3s) have great impact worldwide in my opinion. I think ps3 players have more different tastes among them. (sorry if there are some grammar mistakes)

What a misconception. Who buys more arcade/indy games than US? US buys more soccer games than EU or Japan buy football.

The market where the consumers vary their choice the most is US then EU then Japan.

I don't get it.  If the PS3 is more popular in Europe and Japan, and the PS3 is of equal numbers to the Xbox 360, why do Xbox 360 versions of games sell so much better than PS3 versions?

They don't. Western games, or games designed for Western audiences typically sell better on the 360 (though there are plenty of examples where this isn't the case) just as Japan-centric games generally sell better on PS3. Xbox 360 has a larger Western install base, PS3 has a larger Eastern one.

I believe he is talking about the majority of the time and it is no secret that multiplat games generally sell more on X360.  MSFT is nonexistent in japan so this is doing it without japan pretty much

Especially japanese multiplatforms titles sell much better on Ps3; Dragon's Dogma or Metal Gear Rising comes to my mind.

yea thats why i said RE and FF. i didnt need to check to know they sold more on PS3. for western games i would have to look it up

Be careful, though. It works both ways: there are some western games that have sold better on Ps3, and some japanese games that have sold better on 360.

Which Japanese games? i cant think of any

Probably cause X360 dominates in the wealthiest market.

Wii U is a GCN 2 - I called it months before the release!

My Vita to-buy list: The Walking Dead, Persona 4 Golden, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, TearAway, Ys: Memories of Celceta, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, History: Legends of War, FIFA 13, Final Fantasy HD X, X-2, Worms Revolution Extreme, The Amazing Spiderman, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate - too many no-gaemz :/

My consoles: PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim 320 GB, PSV 32 GB, Wii, DSi.

one japanese game, which is on a handheld. This just shows that console gaming is alot stronger in the west, so PS3's advantage in Japan is negligible

Americans buy more games than Europeans and Asians is my guess.

It's mind blowing how MS progression in the market is downplayed!

I often hear about the 1 year lead bs, but we never hear about MS handicap in Japan( almost 10 mil consoles difference) but still hardware to software attach ratio and software sales are higher on Xbox 360.

In US Fifa sells equal or better on 360 just pointing that out.

The OP says world-wide, just pointing that out.

It's because of the lead the 360 has in the US market. But in Europe even Call of Duty sells more on PS3.

I go with the thread flow, just pointing that out.

Most multiplatform games are better on the 360. I believe that's the main reason.

Deadly Premonition comes to my mind. Dead Rising too, minus the spin-off game.
