God of war 2 > 1.

God of War 1 had a meaningful story. It represented a greek tragedy very well. The downfall of a hero who seeks revenge and realize there no escape from what he did.

God of War 2 is just a bloodshed with no meaning other than "Kill the GOD!!" and God of War 3 is the same.

Seeing Final Fantasy VII on these list all the time is a travesty. At the time of release there was nothing like it. Its combination, cutscenes, graphics, story, and exploration were unmatched. It truly revolutionized RPGs and was one of the most important games released on the PS1.

If you by by review scores, some of these ate definitely overrated...
Some of them I wouldn't consider overrated at all, only because I don't think they get that much love in the first place...
I don't think Sonic Adventure 2 gets all that much love...
And there are other Zelda titles I expected to see before Rwilight Princess...
I think A Link to the Past is easily among the most overrated games ever...
That's not to say it isn't a great game, but I've been told too many times it's the closest thing to the perfect game, and is completely above criticism...

That was in 1997.... We are in 2013..... Heck, Chorno Trigger shits on FF7 easily in my opinion.

to be fair pokemon has a mediocre reviews....

it is not over rated... it just sells alot...
it targets kids.. and the kids who grew up loving them... it is not the type of game that will be pick up randomly by a 40 year old and say "wow this game blew my mind!"
it just doesnt work that way....
