For what you get out of the box, it's definitely worth it, but since I'm not interested in Kinect and there's not a Kinect less SKU, the competition offer a better value for my money.

$500 is a lot for anything for most consumers. hell, $400 is a lot for most consumers.
not sure if i see the value argument either. at least ps3 had blu-ray which had a tangible value even if you weren't into the product.
voice commands? that was a free software update to my iphone. it's not like it is unique either. change my tv channel? is there a dollar amount i would pay for that,.. not really. never even thought to care about a universal remote.
eh,.. we'll see soon enough.
Yusuf Mehdi doesn't give a shit what the core gamer thinks (whom make up a large percentage of the initial buyers). Its the casuals that he wants. Not everyone is gaga about the Kinect.
I personally think a ferrari is worth it's price too, but it still costs too much for me to buy one.
haha ok MS.. Maybe if you keep saying that it'll come true. We'll let the consumers decide whether or not it's a good deal..
Not sure i get the hate on the price, especially if they give the free game at launch. Either way, IF you can afford a PS4, you can afford a XB1. Both cost a crapload of money and money each month if you want online capabilities. Like most have said, it really comes down to if you want the sports car (PS4) or the Sports car with the fancy radio(XB1). The XB1's extra capabilities only matter to a certain crowd. Besides that crowd, most other people will buy based on habits and price. Either way, the $100 won't matter to the core gamers in the first year. Most of them will pay whatever price Sony/M$ puts on their consoles and then spend hundreds more on games and accessories.

Yeah, and they were right. Blu Ray is now the best way to watch films at home.
This sounds like Sony during the initial PS3 launch. Value is defined by consumers. You can have this and that, but if this and that isn't valued by CONSUMERS? Then it's not a value at ALL.
