I don't know what to say. You really think Square would do that with the Eidos titles? What are you accusing them of? The real FF titles you mentioned up there is because Chocobo is a part of the franchise and the other ones is just like what Nintendo has done. They just reuse the name because it could fit.

The reason this one isn't called FF is because it isn't published by Square.

I'm sure SaGa or Holy Sword Quest or whatever translation for Seiken Densetsu they'd have used would have fit.  The Chocobo games also don't have Final Fantasy in the title in Japan.  We got Chocobo's Dungeon 2 for the PSX(good game btw) never got the first, so if there were any after before the one we currently got, they should have just named it Chocobo's Dungeon whatever number they're on.

It's not just Square Enix and it's not against them personally, but they're one of the few publishers who treat the western fanbase like we're stupid and will buy anything with a popular or maybe not popular, but known label.  Namco has even done the same with "Tales of Destiny 2," which may have guaranteed that us in the west will never see the real Tales of Destiny 2.

Square Enix has just been making a lot of crap and ruining the Final Fantasy series, so being a fan, that's kind of a personal hatred towards them as a company.  The series going to absolute shit over the past decade.

Don't forget The World Ends with Final Fantasy...

The Final Fantasy Ends With You makes a little more sense.

I think The World Ends With Final Fantasy makes perfect sense.  It pretty much means that Final Fantasy is the only meaningful thing in this world.  Game parody and double meaning if you're a fanboy.

Hasn't most big Japanese publishers taken part of this? If not then they all are insulting the western fanbase.

You mean if so.  They're only insulting the fanbase by acting like we're stupid and will purchase anything with a name on it.  But I actually can't think of any others than Atlus, Square, and Namco.  Have any other examples?

"Bravely Default" is a good name that alludes to an important battle mechanic. It's the "Flying Fairy" part that looses me.

So what are the examples?

And it's not 900 Final Fantasy titles.  It's titles that aren't Final Fantasy being called Final Fantasy.  Aside from Yoshi's Island which I remember that one now, what games are called Mario that aren't actually Mario, or another series?  Super Mario Bros 2 USA doesn't count since despite being a different game in Japan, the US version is Mario as they remade it to include Mario characters.

Oh, you meant it that way. However, the thing with FF is that it's mostly new characters all the time, with the Mario franchise it isn't. Nintendo is guilty of the same thing by slapping that name and using the characters because they just can.
