Remember the confusion with the 3DS? So many people thought it was just a new DS model with 3D tacked on. And now they're bringing a 2DS, just when people found out that 3DS is a new system. Now there will be even more confusion. People will wonder where the games for 2DS are.

Sure, it's mentioned on the box, but it was also mentioned in this thread, that many people tend to be just plain stupid. They don't look at the box. That's why to this very day, countless people in europe are surprised when they buy a 3DS XL and there's no AC Adapter included.

To be honest, I think Nintendo don't has a strategy anymore. They are just releasing anything they can think of, hoping that something may be the next big thing. But they just lack new ideas in my opinion.

erm.. you're reading way too far into this. It's a redesign designed to sell to kids, brought out at a cheap price in order to survive in an economy that's in the crapper.. That's it. Nothing more.

LOL Sorry, but the OP's suggestions are at least mildly hilarious. The Game Boy and then DS/3DS lines are the most successful portable consoles in gaming history. They did not announce the "2DS" as a replacement, but a side thing, and Reggie even indicated that it was clearly aimed mostly at younger gamers, because 3D is bad for little kids' eyes, and the non-folding design probably makes it sturdier and less breakable for small children to handle.

The 3ds is currently the best selling console and it seems that it will continue to be for a long time. The 2Ds is just a cheaper option to play its games without the 3d effect, just like the DSLite was a cheaper option to play DS games without the internet connection.
I do believe that the 2ds is meant not only to small children, but also as a way to improve 3ds sales in other regions, since it will be a lot cheaper than a regular one
