At the moment the average wage of the burger flippers is 9$ an hour. Ive been living in an nice area in a bigger city and making 10bucks an hour with my wife who is making 9$ an hour. We both definitly do more work than people at McDonalds so if they get anything more than me I know where I'm going to try and get a job. Anyway back on topic... We both really only work 20 hours or so a week and are able to afford cell phones, rent, energy bills, insurance and internet... We don't have cable tv and we dont have the fanciest car but hey... its what we can afford


George Zimmerman's wife pleaded guilty and got probation.

School teachers and cops get good healthcare, vacation packages, and retirement. Soldiers (active duty, anyway) get free housing and food.

They also provide a more valuable service and work in inherently more dangerous environments. I'd say that's even true for the school teachers. Not to mention those jobs require more time effort and training to do. Military members work upwards of 60+ hours a week not counting deployments etc. School teachers also work long hours often spending non paid hours grading papers etc. As do cops and firefighters.

The point is they aren't anywhere near comparable in terms of value and yet their wages even when you include benefits are woefully lacking. I think people who work in low skilled, PLENTIFUL job markets such as fast food should probably be thankful they have a job in the first place.

Yup, florida state fails again. No felony which is what the charge was. I bet george would have plead guilty to a misdamenor as well

I'm pretty sure no fast food chains offer free lunches to their worker they do give great discounts on their food to their worker better discounts that other retailers offer to their employees.

I used to work at a McDonald's that gave out one free meal a shift because the employees had to drive further (the store was at a small rest stop off a freeway) to get to the store. I also worked for Baker's Burgers and after one year on the job you went from a blue shirt employee to a red shirt employee and you got a free meal every shift. I also got free food at El Pollo Loco as an employee. Arby's now they didn't give out free food but the discounts were great...

LOL @ $15 for fast-food workers. I am all for improving their wages, but that is ludicrous. If that happens, suddenly instead of a dollar menu or value menu, the cheapest sandwich would be $4.

yep, as a marine, i make about $1800/year. which averges out to about $8.50/hour. (or really less since my work days start around 6-7am and go till 4pm.

and as for your first post. yes fast food workers have to make a living. but the fast food job is not a job to make a living off of, it never intented to be, never was, and nver will be. its for part time workers, highschool/college age kids. temporary stop-gap job. it is not meant to be a career and have someone be able to live off it, though for a single person, it is possible.

There are people who are saying that they don't deserve the extra money. That's bullshit, I wouldn't want to work in a stinky fast food restaurant for even 75 USD an hour.

and nobody is forcing them to. if they dont want to work a no skill job that pays $7.50, they dont have to. if the have the skillsets, they can get a better paying job. and the highschool student working part time will be more than happy to take that $7.50 working fast food.

Granted, its not like people couldn't find work somewhere else and In-N-Out workers are definitely a different level of professionalism and quality from that of the average person at McD's. (or other low-end FF)

Well, yeah, you pay better, you get better, and not just in terms of getting better-quality people off the bat. If you feel your company's doing right by you, you're less likely to just phone it in or "work to rule." Granted, there are many ways to do right by employees that don't involve wages.

My friend in the Air Force paid everything out of pocket for living off base. He got a living allowence on top of his pay but I don't think it was as much as living is.
