Do any of you honestly believe Nintendo would have cut the price from $250 to $170 if the PS Vita wasn't announced for $250?
Regardless whether the vita sucks or not (and it does) the damn thing is still making lots of money for Sony. Just not as much as Nintendo 3ds is. Think about it, there are only 2 players in the handheld market so if you are #2 (aka last) you still make money. No one has beaten Nintendo in all the years handhelds have been around and Sony knows this so settling for 2nd place/making money is not a bad option.

But if you bring the topic like this, how could nintendo think it could compete with sony and microsoft on home console ?
They only had one success in 3 generations, sony overwhelmed them twice already.

Vita sucks? News to me, everyone I know loves the hardware, lots of games, just needs the price cuts and a few bigger name games and it will be fine. The hardware is amazing.
Nintendo needs to be on top of the handheld market; its all they got left.
I always think Sony shouldnt have bothered with the handheld market, but then once I tried it for myself it was a bundle of joy.
They tried to be too high end with Vita and DS just had too many catchy titles. Also they've never made a Pokemon or anything that was really signature with their handheld. Just a bunch of lesser versions of home console titles. That's why even though I can't live without Sony home consoles I never have fun playing their handhelds. Everyone said how wonderful Uncharted was then I played it and just thought "not as good as any of the home ones" which may not be fair but it's what I think when I'm playing Vita.

Why does the Vita suck? I bet you've probably never touched one.
Sony's problem is more to d with Japan where handheld is king. Nintendo's best games are on the 3DS, Sony doesn't take that chance. They don't invest as much. Frankly, they don't care as much as Nintendo.
