Why did they make the shape like that? Why not just make it the same shape as every other DS handheld? I would of bought that if it wasn't shaped the way it was.

It probably reduces the cost even more.

OT: I don't understand why people are mad about this, you can still buy a normal 3DS or a XL. This is just for people that want a cheap handheld and can still play all of the 3DS games. Sure the thing looks ugly, but Kotaku (yeah I know but oh well) said that aside from the small screen the thing is comfortable, so I honestly don't understand why people are making a fuss about this.

oh man i want one, looks so much more comfortable for me to hold, and i never play with 3d on anyways.
i might be spending quite a penny on october 12th :P

I don't know why people get so upset whenever a game company makes something that isn't designed for them.

I work at retail at an electronics store and A LOT of customers are concerned about the 3D feature for young kids. As for the form factor, the lack of a hinge means that there is less of a chance for the device breaking. It's bulky for a pocket, but if you're a 7 year old kid, even a 3DS is going to be a tough fit.

It's a 3DS for kids, and especially for kids whose parents don't want to spend 170-200 dollars so they can play Pokemon X/Y or Mario Bros 2. It's a smart move that will pay off. Older gamers will be better sticking to the XL.

Unbelievable...

Beyond belief...

I just can't believe it...

Sold.

As long as it also gets >5hrs battery life, I'm buying at least two of these in October for my boy's birthday party.

Now there's an interesting thing, an acknowledgement that the 3DS' primary gimmick has proven to be unimportant for a large market segment.

This shows a fascinating degree of awareness from Nintendo's higher-ups.

That's my thinking too. Glad to see they're able to recognize some of their mistakes, eventually.

It IS pretty ugly, though...

October 12th, just before Pokemon.

Oh boy.

I saw all this '2DS' stuff on twitter & thought it was some kind of joke. Good God, that thing is hideous.

It's designed for younger users. I hope it comes to the states because my toddler has wrecked one 3DS by overworking the hinge and I have to keep turning off the 3D feature when he plays Mario Kart. I actually love the ideas behind the design.

Someone break the news to Kaizar.
