The company developing it doesnt have a good track record of selling games....How are they even still around?

Don't worry about them, Nintendo paid for the development of the games

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

it doesn't matter when a game launches, if its a god game it will sell. May not be big to start with but a good game has legs.

God games haven't sold well for years, that's why they died out.

Sadly :(

The game was original going to have Nintendo all stars as the characters. Idk why they changed this because if Nintendo characters were in it, this game would sell well over a few million. But W101ill be buying this anyway, flop or not.

Let's look at other Platinum Games releases... Madworld didn't sell 30k lifetime in Japan... Infinite Space didn't sell 200k global lifetime... Anarchy Reigns hasn't sold 300k across two platforms... why should people expect this to be the next Bayonetta or Vanquish? It could sell decently for a Platinum Title. It doesn't need half a million sales to not be a flop.

I think this is a good point for highlighting why it will be a flop.  Platinum have had very few sales success stories and - as other people point out - the fact that one of their biggest successes (Bayonetta) still failed to recoup enough budget to be worth greenlighting a sequel until Nintendo, it really doesn't bode well.  Combined with Kayima's comments about W101 having 1.5x the budget of Bayonetta...  I don't see any way this game can be profitable.

Of course, that doesn't fall back on Platinum.  Nintendo will be eating those losses, I assume.  But it just adds to the cycle that Platinum will struggle with getting funding in future.

I'm actually intrigued to see what happens after W101 & Bayonetta 2.  Will Nintendo keep funding them, hoping for "If we keep pushing them, will fans grow more accepting with time?"  Or will they get dropped and have to continue bouncing around to whatever publisher will take them?  It's certainly an interesting one.

I'd say if the sales of Lego City Can still have legs then the reason why W101 potentially flops will have nothing to do with GTA

I think people often think of gamers as single-console owners when a lot of them are not. I'd bet a lot of Wii U owners have a PS3 or 360, maybe even a majority.

and only 10% of that majority will buy GTA.

well, the fact the game sells or not wont change my purchase and my enjoyment with the game

Yup. Pretty much, I'm resigned to this flopping. Probably Bayonetta 2 too also. But whatever. Still buying my copy.

Not to flop as a game, yes, but to help Wii U shake off it's reputation as a flopping system W101 was a bit of a flag waver for Nintendo, and it needs to sell not only itself but it also needs to sell systems. It it fails to sell half to 1 million then it might still make platinum games som money, but Nintendo won't be very pleased with the result.

79 Meta isn't a guaranteed hit. But it's still a good metascore. If it's a genuinely good game that some critics don't seem to get it should still sell pretty well.

Nintendo need to do something fresh with it's long established franchises, something like they did with Super Mario Galaxy on Wii. Perhaps the HD Zelda game will be the thing that makes Wii U really take off.
