They would need to dramatically change the controls similar to Pikmin. Currently implementations (Kinetic, Smartglass, whatever) will not be able to emulate PC controls well enough to be fun or playable.

I don't agree voice control and motion control combo would easily do the trick....

say : "select all units" "attack closest ennemy unit"
say: "build command center" then either position it with your hands or smartglass
say: "create group one" and then select with hands or SG

etc etc.... I actually would love to see that on PC too.... real commanders don't point and click on units... they give out voice orders...I'd love to see a really well done voice supported RTS (yeah I know there have been tries in the past)

but being able to say
tank units, hold the line at rally point alpha
GI's flank the ennemy group in zone delta by the east, fall back if you reach 50% casualties
Comandos go on hill side zeta and wait for my orders
engineers get ready to be air lifted at LZ tango
etc etc

One can go and try End Game to see how it goes.  The number of units commandable is much smaller.  And RTS fans just don't get into it.  Idea here is to be able to get PC RTS stuff able to also appear on consoles in a way that is natural.

RTS's on PC being my favorite game to play, voice commands, and gesture commmands seems completely natural, and would be fun. What "End Game" do you mean? I couldn't find it.

Around the Network

An indepth voice command (with optional kinect gestures) and controller output is more than enough to make a decent RTS.

The real problem is controlling an RTS it's the limitations of the hardware, Halo Wars was weak because you could hardly build anything (compared to PC RTS') so I hope with X1 and the extra power (and cloud AI) it's more doable now.

smart glass, as I've been saying for months.

I know but it was total crap and has nothing on the kinect capabilities.... this is prime exemple of Devlopers doing the voice control work with regular mics themselve having nothing on the kinect capabilities and on board API they can use freely with 0 or close to overhead..... this prove exactly the "you can do voice command with a regular headset" rant against kinect is just as solid as wet paper windows in a wind storm

and I have played probably most major RTS... from Warcraft to most c&c, close combat, total anhilation and its mods, halo wars, Starcraft and so on

and I'm sorry but every crew, guild or whatnot I have been in are dreaming of something else than point and click (yeah sure competitive play will probably always be better that way, but once again the core of the hardcore is not what makes profit for a dev) they have wet dreams of the day they will be able to handle battle like you see on TV shows like battle star galactica scenes in the CIC...
something like the RUSE commercial and End Game way better capabilities would be awesome on console.... if you want a PC experience on console buying a console in the first place is stupid anyway....IMO

HALO WARS

Why won't they ever make a sequel....

wait what???? they said they would never do one... or just because the studio closed down you are assuming so ???

They closed the studio down immediately after its launch, that's hardly a sign of confidence is it? It is mainly time, I doubt that they would bring one out now, I think that have given up on the idea of spreading Halo

Around the Network

well the studio was planned to be closed way before halo wars launched anyway.... halo wars was always planned to be their last game....

but yeah I know.... I just thought you had insider info that halo wars was canned officially for some valid reason like IP ownership or some crazy BS like that

I think he's refering to Tom Clancy's End War. You could control your troops with voice commands in that game but it didn't work too well.

On Topic: I have C&C 3: Tib Wars, C&C 3: Kane's Wrath and C&C Red Alert 3 for 360 and I've had tons of fun playing them. I've actually gotten several people interested in RTS games by playing those. Let me not forget LOTR:BFME II which I loved and was upset consoles didn't get the expansion. I mean it's not like we're playing people on the PC and they have an unfair advantage.

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.

Is Kinect sensor supports to read your hand to see where you move units?  Curious how RTS is supposed to be done.  I just don't see where a precise point and click interface is doable on the ONE.  I am curious because RTS, due to interface issues, hasn't made a migration over to consoles.

I thought Halo Wars did it as well as it could be done on a console... Using a pointer, but having the triggers make an expanding selection circle to select units, rather than drag and select.

They won't and shouldn't nothing would sell unless it has a huge brand stuck to its name. RTS games are becoming a thing of the past anyways, with mobas taking center stage.

Starcraft and Total War would like to say 'hello'.
