I don't wanna go bashing the game or complaining about its f2p / pay setup, but the thing I don't get is the hype for this game. Are there really that many people that think this is a must have game?

This are excellent news. $20 each season I suppose and $20 for the original KI. :)
I prefer the way Virtua Fighter did it. Dividing the characters will fragment the community.

How will this divide the community? Even the F2P users will be apart of the same community.

Yes, yes there are.
Whether its love or hate, this game has a ton of a buzz because people loved the original games.
Personally I'm glad with the pay setup they chose. It'll get more attention as a cheap online release with content constantly added.

Considering its free to download......its easy to call it a must have :P
Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

6 at launch 2 more for dlc if/when u spend $20 you get all 8 the first 6 then the 2 when they are released note u cant spend more then 20 unless u buy the $40 bundle
