Forums - Microsoft - Why does Microsoft rely on timed exclusive DLC so much?

I mean COD Ghosts, Battlefield 4, FIFA 14 and now the Division have their DLC coming first on Xbox One. I don't know about you lot but i see this as a waste of money, knowing the DLC will make to other systems within time. Instead of giving money to 3rd party developers to secure early content, why not just fund more exclusive games?

Xbox Series, PS5 and Switch (+ Many Retro Consoles)

Because they know when it comes to third party they are at parity with Sony. The only way to get the edge is to have the slightly better version of the same game.

Honestly I would prefer 1 exclusive game over all those DLC's, even MS was to secure FFXV DLC first ( my most anticipated game) I would still say having an extra exclusive game would be better....DLC is overated and never feels half as good as the original game did.

i usually wait for the package deal at the end, usually for the price of one pack i can get all. thats what happened in BF3, got premium for $20. so meh, idc about dlc that much. i have other games to entertain myself in the meantime.

They have LOADS of money.

They have tried to invest in their internal studios, but that will take time and buying exclusives outright is too expensive. Instead, they are trying to get every little advantage they can.

They also need to improve in Europe, hence their FIFA tie-up.

But I have said this before, I find either side buying up tiny bits of exclusive content really annoying

This is a simple answer.

They are some of the biggest games in the industry and you want the biggest slice of the pie for the industry's biggest games.  Since it is out of negotiation to secure these games exclusively without giving an arm and a leg they can at least make it the best version to gain a crowd on their console rather than competitors.  Something that has worked in the past and will likely continue to work.

FIFA is also one of Europes biggest franchises and MSFT will be looking to gain momentum there early. Call of Duty/Battlefield for America/Europe.

Jay it dosnt work, and people like me avoid buying dlc that does this. Ill just move on to a new game. No big deal.

Because it works.

Some people love having content first and will pick that console solely on that reason.
It works is a simple way to put it :P

These companies have numbers to back up their claim. Why do you think it happens all the time? What is your proof?
