MS is smart to go after this audience.

This is kinda the thing with MS to all the Sony fans that were laughing it up all summer -- the XBox division is no push over and especially when it comes to North America they know their marketing and how to target the core audience.

There's so many people I meet even today who think the XBox 360 is more powerful than a PS3, even the PS3 probably has some of the better looking games this gen.

As long as they're not up against Apple, MS tends to know what they're doing. The $100 price differenece is what's really haunting MS now, but if they bundle a game for the US as well, that will go a ways in alleviating concerns I think.

I see nothing too amazing about the strategy (there have been dual commercials / official sponsor of a sport (hell there are even official sponsored vitamins, car, etc).  Basically, it is Microsoft giving money or products to NFL to be associated with it.  I'm sure it will help them with a decent bump (more than perhaps Buick money hatting the PGA or Shaq).  However, it seems MS is more focused on USA market than anything.  It is basically like MS is almost giving up the rest of the world just for USA.  If they aren't careful they might end up like Atari (Atari mainly sold the most in USA) and only have one main market to sell to.  Of course I'm expecting a money deal with EA for FIFA free game for Europe or something like that soon to be announced.

FIFA for free in the Euro market is pretty huge I think. They don't give a crap about Japan but it's just as well, as Japan basically has forsaken consoles.

LOL they want all of the Dude bro games, not just America fans but anyone in the world who buys the most of said product. Worldwide they constitute the largest channeled third party sales. The annualized licensed sports and COD titles. Fifa sells wayyyy more than Madden, which is why they are paying boatloads for exclusive content.

Japan hasn't totally forsaken home consoles but they sure as hell don't care for MS that much.  Sure they are more hand held centric but there is a chance to sell a decent amount of home console there.  Of course MS shouldn't care about Japan market so I suppose it isn't too hard to see they are mainly focused on USA right now.  They will have some sort of deal for Europe I'm sure (probably FIFA).

People aren't going to payover $600 to make specifically just their football entertainment a little better when they already pay for cable tv. 90% are more than fine with cable tv, nobdoy wants to pay a massive premium to acquire something they already have.

Most cable providers have NFL network on their standard digital package now right?  I believe that is the case in my market (I don't have cable but have a friend that does, Time Warner).

The main issue with the XB1 is the $100 price gap, but I think MS will respond quickly if the PS4 gets too much steam.

Library wise I think MS has the better library ... Rhyse, Dead Rising 3, and Killer Instinct at launch and then Titanfall next spring trumps Sony's exclusives. Forza/Drive Club is a wash.

Sorry to burst any bubbles but it's not going to happen

In America, The Xbox 360 has sold over 40 million 360's. PS3 has sold less than 25 million PS3's. 360 has a 15 million lead and advantage in America over the PS3.

Despite having such a steep 15 million advantage, Madden only sells like 500k more on 360 than PS3 in America on average

This will be nice for MS but it probably wont mean much in the end

Thats a good marketing scheme! I think the best one so far is having xbox live appear on all windows 8 desktops though.

Considering Sony hasn't announced the vast majority of their PS4 exlusives yet... your point is kind of moot, dont you think?
