Forums - Gaming - The most disappointing game of this generation

Twilight Princess and Final Fantasy XIII are definitely up there.

I wasn't overly fond of The Last of Us (starts off amazingly, then it kept putting me to sleep), but I didn't have massive expectations out of it. BioShock: Infinite was a minor disappointment, the gameworld, story and characters were great, but they chose the wrong engine/"world" structure for that one.

Final Fantasy XIII
Resident Evil 6
Duke Nukem Forever
Aliens Colonial Marines
Haze
...

Saints Row the Third - Made somethings better but it wasn't Saints Row anymore.

Final Fantasy 13 - Played all the way to chapter 10 and stopped. It wasn't worth beating.

Fable 3 - I loved the other two but part 3 was a complete let down.

Assassin's Creed Revelations/ Assassin's Creed 3 - Made the story into a complete fuckfest, plus the gameplay was boring as hell.

Skyrim - Not bad but it didn't live up to the hype.

Godfather 2 - Played the first one to death but this one was no where near was good as the first.

Pokemon Black and White - I just got tired of Pokemon but I am getting excited for the new one.

Hitman Absolution - It was not the hitman I knew and loved. Not enough well planned levels where you had to sneak around to kill your target.

Crackdown 2 - Just part one just better graphics and none of the soul.

Dragon Age 2 - just why....

FF13, and it was my first FF. Just seemed out of depth. High production values with no innovation in the gameplay. From what I hear, it's actually a downgrade which is shocking!

I'll do one for consoles and one for handhelds:

Metroid: Other M (Wii): At the time Metroid: Other M was announced, I had played the Prime series, Metroid: Zero Mission and Super Metroid. So with such a pedigree and Sakamoto behind the game, I was pretty excited for the title. But when I finally got to play the game, what we got was a lot of bad design choices. 3D action combat controls were awkwardly shoehorned on the Wii Remote (It didn't even give you the option to attach the Nunchuck), 1st person "pixel hunts" which served no purpose other than to cause frustration, Samus Aran's seemingly out of nowhere design/character choices which only served to take her two steps back instead of actually fleshing her out (freaking high heels on her zero suit, her never ending quest to please/obey the "man in charge", even if it meant self harm), a nonsensical story full of unresolved fluff (The Deleter!) and holes (Adam's personal magic gun which can automatically shut Samus' suit down.), and a final boss which will kill you over and over again unless you realize that you can use the Power Bomb you never knew you had (and the game doesn't tell you that you have it).

All in all, this game halted Samus Aran's incredible momentum leading up to this moment. Not only with poor sales, but with how we've come to know a heroine and the adventures she's taken (the Prime series apparently isn't canon now, thanks to Sakamoto). Just one big disappointment.

Yoshi's Island DS (DS): Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island on the SNES is considered to be one of the greatest games of all time, and for good reason. So when Nintendo announced Yoshi's Island DS, people were excited to see a return of fantastic visuals and unique platforming gameplay.

However, Yoshi's Island DS was just... "good" at best (and uninspired and unfun at worst), and not reminiscent of the platforming perfection we were expecting. Odd difficulty spikes, trial and error level design, and more odd design choices seemed odd for such a game... until we realized that the game wasn't internally developed. Yoshi's Island DS was actually developed by Artoon (Blinx the Time Sweeper for Xbox). So while it may be par for the course for that studio, fans were expecting something much more magical.

What's frustrating is that Nintendo is doing the exact same thing with Yoshi's New Island for the 3DS. Instead of being created by Nintendo's quality studios, the game is being developed by Arzest Studios. What are they known for? Wii Play Motion and StreetPass Mii Plaza. Consider my excitement lowered.

Metroid Prime is still canon. What he meant was that the story had no bearing on Other M, which is true. Prime works well that way because it is self-contained, a side-story ultimately, despite my love for that series.

The "heels on the zero suit" thing is overblown to a certain extent as well. Check her model in Brawl.

(now, i had my own critiques of the game and story and are different from yours, but i'm under time constraints so i'll not post them immediately).

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Grand Theft Auto IV - After how amazing and great GTA: SA was, and after all the high scores that this game had reseved, ofcourse I got super hyped for it but when I played it what I got was a much worse game, the story was fine but the controls for driving and the camera as well was a letdown, the cellphone made things worse and not better, it was a good game but nowhere near the scores that it recieved and no where near GTA:SA.

Ah, I hated that part, I died so many times before checking a walkthrough.

Fallout New Vegas: No argument to this. I stopped after 5 hours too. Was like a Diet Fallout 3. Same as Fallout 3, yet all of the fun and flavor was removed, and a bunch of glitches and broken mechanics were added.

...errrhhh, you do know that NV is widely considered to be the better game...and the feel of the game is supposed to be more "Fallout" than 3 ?

(with Obsidian consisting of the remnants of the old Black Isle Studio which developed Fallout 1&2)

...I know opinions and all that

...but the stories and sidequests were so much better...and the stupid Metro was gone...and the upgrade/ammo system was more interesting...and the world felt more condensed and not redicolusly bloated and empty compared to 3...oh well

if someone told you what FF would be like in like 15years in 1998
no one wouldva believe you
FF is garbage now. theyve ruined one of the best franchises
