Wii U sales are atrocious..But no, no way. Do people not see the writing on the wall here? There will be no Wii this generation. This industry is not healthy.

The Wii brought vitality into the gaming industry, because the people who majorly bought the Wii werent gamers. The Wii is that casual hot item that comes around once in a blue moon in the gaming industry. It might not stay in the majority of houses forever, but it could revitalize a very gloomy time for gaming. If actual gamers are not buying games then we can accurately gauge a true low point. The Wii's allure came out of nowhere because at least the PS2's sales could be gauged at 150 million, but the Wii's could not.  You cannot predict the rise and fall of that console.

LoL, that's a sweeping statement that is quite ignorant my friend. How many 20m sellers does PS2 have? How many does Wii have? The gaming industry would like to believe the Wii an anomaly, but the fact is it went back to basics. I can understand if the games weren't your cup of tea, but it doesn't mean they weren't games. You seem like a gamer who is into cinema gaming, qte's things like that (I won't hold that against you ; )

Everything the PS2 had in its favor, were obstacles for the Wii, and on top of that, the console (its philosophy, direction etc) was abandoned by Nintendo. PS2 hit at the height of globalization, economic times not in a toilet and abundance of support from every dev. The fact Wii sold what it did is astonishing.

Casual/Hardcore buzzwords don't work, and are largely a marketing tactic used by competitors to marginalize the Wii and its success. You drank the Kool-Aid. Which is unfortunate, because you are bright, except when it comes to loyalty free gaming : ) You are either a gamer or not. 'Casual' describes behavior of a gamer, not the game the gamer plays. I could play Tetris obsessively or play Infamous casually.

You actually can predict these things, if you pay attention to the right details. The economy is in the shitter, the industry is in great decline, $400 machines plus $60 games, plus $50 yearly pay wall for online may look appealing to you (depending on the name on the box) but the average gamer looks at that and thinks 'fuck that'.

Its funny the Wii is only highlighted when it suits to show the industrys growth. But take the Wii away and gen 7 was a huge decline. Now there will be no Wii this gen; Not the PS4, not the Xbox1, and damn sure not the Wii U. Many will be in for a suprise. Things will get ugly...uglier.

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.

How many bundles did Nintendo sell those hot button casual items with? You will have the answer to your question. I am not using a buzzword either. Anyone will tell you...the audience Nintendo drew, doesn't normally game. This is an audience that for the most part unless someone has a peripheral that is new and goes nuts will not return. The growth the Wii brought into the industry was temporary, you'll see what I mean by the end of the generation. Sony created a stablized market off of the hundred million Nintendo gamers Nintendo once had with Sega. They increased the market to about above that and add the Xbox and the industry grew to over 200 million between all of them with Sony holding the majority of the console sales. Because of the fact that the Wii's market wasn't "real" or sustainable, based off of people who actually mainly gamed or at least did it casually without a gimmick, the whole market will shrink next gen. Look around, many people are expecting the market to shrink as well. When we see Nintendos sales without third party support or a attractive gimmick, you'll see where it came from.

The Sony guys will say PS4 will and Nintendo guys will say Wii U. Hard to tell, but unless PS4 has some hardware selling titles, I don't see the system outselling a console that is releasing Super Smash.

Edit: Me being silly cuz I thought it was 2014. Still stand by that Sony needs exclusive software that can bring people to their hardware and I just dont see it.

Sony's launch lineup is fine. They will sell very well. They will have a healthy dose of first, second and third party. Sony hasn't really shown anything yet. Gamescom and Tokyo Gameshow are right around the corner.

Will that lineup bring people to the PS4 though? If GTA5 was coming with exclusive content on the system then I could some hardware being pushed more, but as of now, no title has that "killer app" feel to it.

Estelle and Adol... best characters ever! XD

Its about a balance of first, second and third party that gets people going. The people who buy the most solid items buy third party annualized items but they tend to be a small chunk of games out of a greater whole. I was watching a video on an Xbox page IOutsiders Xbox or something) and they said the chances of a next gen version Grand Theft Auto is high based on the scale of Grand Theft Auto's planning which mostly looked like they were fromt he PC, not from consoles. They were hinting we might get something at Gamescom, but I don't know if I completely believe it yet. We'll see at Gamescom. One day left.

Are some people misinterpreting the thread title or am I?

'Will the PS4 outsell the WiiU in 2013?'

I take that to mean the amount of consoles sold from the launch of the PS4 to the end of the year. Or does it mean outselling the Wiiu 'including' what has already sold?

If it's just from when the PS4 launches: easily

If it's including Wiiu sales already: close.

The PS5 Exists.

No chance. As in at all.

As of JUNE, Wii U had sold over 3.6 million. As of right now, it's got to be about 4 million. By the time Zelda, Mario, DK, and Wii Fit come out, you're going to be looking at, I'd wager, 5 million minimum. Possibly even 6 million, depending on whether or not Nintendo of America:

A) Has some really strong advertising for the thing for once.

and

B) Has a really good bundle to help give an additional boost to sales.

But no, in all honesty, considering that the PS4 isn't coming out till, what, November? No, I don't seriously think it's going to sell 5 million copies in less than 2 months time. Even if it launches in October, it would still be literally astounding for the console to sell that much that fast. $400, for a base unit with no games and no extra controllers, no now-mandatory Playstation-Plus subscription, etc., is still not cheap by any means, and early on, there are a lot of holiday season games this year that are still going to be available on PS3/360/PC and some even on Wii U, so there won't be a huge compulsion on the part of many, I would think, to run out right away and spend close to $500 on a new system.

And even just considering Wii U sales in this year alone, I think by the end of the year, there's a very solid chance for the system to have sold over 2 million just in 2013. I have a good feeling that the fall/holiday season is going to be kind to Nintendo's struggling new system. I still don't know that I see PS4 selling 2 million in just a couple of months......it's not very likely.

So again, no, I really don't foresee any realistic way that PS4 outsells Wii U in 2013.

2012 Wii U sales dont count, just 2013. Either way I dont see Iit happening

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

The PS4 should be able to outsell the XBox One and Wii U combined. The PS4 has a strong line up of exclusive games and has the big multi-platform games and content coming to the PS4 that will assist its console sales.

I don't see it, but it should be close.

I expect the Wii U to sell around....4.5mil this year. Can the PS4 beat that? With its games lineup and the XOne, I doubt it.

My fear is that, in 12 months time we return to these threads and see just how ludicrous some of these predictions are, though they didn't seem so at the time. I guess we will see.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.
