LTDs (last 12 months)

DS - 53.1m (1.5m)

Wii - 41.2m (1.7m)

X360 - 39.4m (4.8m)

PS3 - 24.3m (2.8m)

PSP - 20.0m

3DS - 8.9m (3.7m)

Vita - 1.35m (0.7m)

Wii U  ~1.2m (1.2m)

Pretty shitty year to date for everybody - still doubting anything will be over 4m for the year. 3DS maybe.

X360 is down by half from 2012 in June & July - if that continues through August to December it'll end up at just over 3m rather than below 4m which is more reflective of the year to date trend. With new systems coming the X360 / PS3 should be down a lot over Nov-Dec. PS3 is down a ton in June & July too, trending for 2m ish from 3m ish last year.

WIi / Wii U are still both low as well, but with four platforms on the market Nintendo's overall hw sales are actually down the least in Jan - July vs. last year Jan - July.

N platforms (2.9m in Jan - July 2012), (2.6m in Jan - July 2013)

S platforms (2.4m in Jan-July 2012), (1.3m in Jan - July 2013)

M platforms (1.9m in Jan-July 2012), (1.4m in Jan-July 2013)

Sony better hopes PS4 launches well - otherwise 2014 is going to be a pretty hard year for them, Nintendo will be able to ride 3DS to some extent (should be around 4m in 2014), and Microsoft can milk X360 for one last year (it'll be around 2m next year) with the new system, but Sony can't ride Vita / PS3 next year - it's on PS4. PS3 is going to be around 1-1.5m in 2014 - virtually no bottom line contribution outside Christmas, kind of like how Wii is now.

I've read this a lot of times by now. 500k a month is cute. What's going to happen this December when the 3DS is averaging over a million per week?

Besides the fact that the 3DS won't average more than a million per week in the US, the best case scenario would be briefly catching back up before the DS 2007 holidays hit.  After that, the 3DS would need to sell ~4.95 million in Jan-April 2014 to keep pace with the DS.

In the 29th month, the DS widened the gap by 359k.  The next two months will probably increase that at least another 500k.  Even October with Pokemon will probably have a rough time matching the 561k that the DS did in June 2007.  November and December will need to be at least 2.8 million to get close to the DS again.  Seems like a tall order when a price cut, 3D Mario, and Mario Kart couldn't even achieve those numbers.

Wii U, what are you doing. I cant even...

Minecraft sold more than 610,000 units in the US and VGChartz shows it sold only 570,000 for the whole world!
Right now, this game sold more than 680,000 just in US and UK. This might be a million seller already.

Alright, so it's more depressing than I thought. In seriousness, Nontendo need to really push the Wii U, preferably with Pikmin, starting from now really.

You know, anecdote time, but yesterday my family and I saw an advert for Disney Infinite and Splinter Cell, the former pushing the Wii U version heavily, the latter not as much. But my family were going crazy over Infinite. Perhaps this is a title which could help a little as well. That would be, ofcourse, if it didn't launch on other systems as well.

In addition, it will be interesting to now see how Splinter Cell does. It's a port released at the same time as the other versions, no?

Back to the figures, PS3 and 360 down 40% YoY is crippling. I know it's coming to the end of the generation, but this does not bode well for the rest of the world figures.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

Vita is basically dead. There's just no way people can continue to claim smartphones/tablets haven't had a monstrous impact on the handheld market. These are enormous drop offs.

The problem is that revenue has just disappeared from the markets. People are spending their time on tablets but the actual spending isn't there.

Now that there's an expectation of free to 99c, a game has to be exceptional to command even $10+ on a tablet.

renvenue didn't disappeared.. they are spending it on mobile games.. did you  know that the mobile software market in Japan is bigger than dedicated consoles and handhelds software AND hardware... http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=166140
smarthphone games alone almost beat the software sales for dedicated consoles..

Minecraft... What the hell?!
By this point one would have thought it was starting to show its age. I can't believe that it's still selling good.

Actually it's selling more and more :p Before retail release - 50-60k per week on XBLA and now 110-130k per week on X360 :p
