Forums - Nintendo - Will a price cut and another year or so on the market be able to push the Wii past the PS?

I don't think it will pass it, but it sorta deserves to I liked the wii better than the ps1.

I think 4 million isn't unreasonable if it's supported. But I see only a push on the 3ds front so I think in the end... No. But that's fine.

I think it's naive to say the Wii will NEVER, from here until the end of time, outsell the 20 year old PS1. That said, it's certainly not guaranteed either, and it will take a long long time if it does happen, at which point most people won't notice/care anyway. Nintendo (and to a lesser extent, third parties) completely botched the last couple years of the Wii, no doubt.. The thing had PS2 sales potential and beyond..

But, 100 million sales is always a massive accomplisment in and of itself, especially coming from a company that most proclaimed would be going third party by 2004 and was coming off a console that had only sold 22 million.

A price-cut to $99 or less could give the Wii another year of sales on NA and EU markets but what's the point? There is no major software coming out on the system, though the system does have a decent number of good games in it's library for both new and used software. I honestly think Nintedo needs to drop the system on major markets and focus on their future which is making the Wii U more successful.(same point I make with Sony regarding the Vita is to concentrate on the PS4 and drop the lagging handheld) They could even use their backward compatibility as one of their selling points, stating that Wii games play better on the Wii U. I don't understand Nintendo's marketing sometimes. Going back to the main topic, no the Wii is done or should be done after this year!!!

The Wii will sell a little over 100 million but has little chance of selling 101 million let alone reaching the PS1's number of 105 million according to VGChartz.

It sold less than 2m in 2012 and is rapidly falling. I think next year, the Wii will sell less than 1m. But if Nintendo keeps the Wii alive long enough, it will pass the PS1 eventually. Should take 3 years at least though. At the same time, PS3 will most probably pass the Wii. :P

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

My bad, looked accidentally at US only. With that in mind, Wii should be able to pass PS1 pretty easily.

holidays can push wii easily here in NoA, Alot of Software still sell very high for the wii despite games being over 5 years+. (SSBB/MKWii/SMG/SMG2/etc). OT: It has a chance to pass 101mil this year but the least i seeing wii do is 102mil lifetime, but no more than 104mil-105mil imo
