I think it's naive to say the Wii will NEVER, from here until the end of time, outsell the 20 year old PS1. That said, it's certainly not guaranteed either, and it will take a long long time if it does happen, at which point most people won't notice/care anyway. Nintendo (and to a lesser extent, third parties) completely botched the last couple years of the Wii, no doubt.. The thing had PS2 sales potential and beyond..
But, 100 million sales is always a massive accomplisment in and of itself, especially coming from a company that most proclaimed would be going third party by 2004 and was coming off a console that had only sold 22 million.
