Forums - Nintendo - Will a price cut and another year or so on the market be able to push the Wii past the PS?

It sold less than 2m in 2012 and is rapidly falling. I think next year, the Wii will sell less than 1m. But if Nintendo keeps the Wii alive long enough, it will pass the PS1 eventually. Should take 3 years at least though. At the same time, PS3 will most probably pass the Wii. :P

Not sure where ur getting ur numbers but Wii sold over 5 million in 2012 not 2 million.

My bad, looked accidentally at US only. With that in mind, Wii should be able to pass PS1 pretty easily.

Even then it may be close, its at 100m right now and can probably sell another 1.5-2m this year so thats puts it about 102m. Next year will likely see it drop to $99 and can maybe push out another 2m or so after that. I guess it all depends on how long it stays on the market.

Wii Mini world wide bundled with a game that hasn't been bundled yet. Perhaps smash bros, or galaxy. Could do it.

I've said this a million times now, but I'll say it again. VGC's 104.25m number is incorrect, I don't know where they got it, but Sony's last shipment of the console wasn't that; it's 102.49m. Wii will definitely overtake that.

I think it was more amazing that the PS did it back then, but if the wii could do it it would still be pretty special.

I agree what the PS did was awesome more so the PS2.

But I think the wii's sales accomplishments just surpass that of the PS and PS2 based on the single fact that the wii had far tougher opposition.

As for Wii passsing the PS although possible I doubt it will happen going by current sales. I have no idea of upcoming games on the platform but I doubt there will be anything to improve sales above the current rate apart from a price cut and even then there is a limit.

I know it sounds negative to the wii but I wish there was a way for Nintendo to get all these people still buying wiis to save up for another month or so and get the wii u instead.

Time to look to the future and let the past slip away.. but that is my non-business sense opinion.

Well, if Nintendo start selling the Wii in China, they may well pass PS2.

I don't think it will pass it, but it sorta deserves to I liked the wii better than the ps1.

You disgust me!

Not going to happen, slowing down too much.

Will ship 1m~ this FY and less after that if they haven't discontinued it by then.

Hopefully. Personally, I loved the Wii more than the PS, it's library is awesome. I've hacked mine to remove the region lock though, but there was this cool PS emulator I installed (my PS broke in half) that reads My PS rips from a harddrive

I think Wii will probably pass PS1. Not because of a price cut or anything, but just because it is still selling. They will probably expand the WiiMini market and it will sell OK during the Christmas season. Also, if they sell it in China, it's a done deal.

Really doubt it. The wii is dropping like a rock. If it doesn't get within a million this year, it isn't happening.
