I'm afraid it's pro-immigration propaganda so I will skip it.
Don't get me wrong I really liked it, but I don't think it was quite as good as District 9.
Been away for a bit, but sneaking back in.
Gaming on: PS4, PC, 3DS. Got a Switch! Mainly to play Smash
i honestly liked the movie...
the title shouldve been Obamacare: The Movie though

Really hated this movie. Beats you over the head with its message and takes itself to seriously. District 9 was appealing because it had a poignant message but it was still humorous and lighthearted.

It is very similar to District 9; themes of segregation, a dirty/gritty sci-fi world, bursts of ultra-violence, mercenary baddies, and much more that I can't list without spoiling keys parts of the film.
But that's okay, because District 9 was amazing, and so is this film.
It crafts a believable and intriguing dystopian future, keeps things moving at a brisk pace, and orchestrates some truly intense scenes. It may be just a tad less daring and unconventional than District 9, but as a whole its still a remarkable piece of filmmaking.
I especially love the setting. Graffiti covers every square inch of its 2154 AD Los Angeles. Landing pads for realistic futuristic aircraft and makeshift extra housing jut out from aging skyscrapers. The droids seem like something we could actually build. All this contrasts beautifully with the pristine buildings and lush greenery of Elysium.
Jodie Foster is also one of the film's strong points, playing a similarly believable villain.
All in all, highly recommended.
I've already signed up for the blu-ray release, love everything sci-fi. Yet I'm not going to get too hyped about this after the mixed reviews, especially not after Oblivion turning out to be a bit 'Is that it?'. I'm more excited to see Europa report tbh.
I'm a huge si fi fan, loved district nine, and a fan of Mat Damon, but I saw this yesterday and thought it was a total turkey!
Seriously, the writing, pacing, dialog, etc was so bad, so forced..I almost laughed out loud a few times. It's really too bad, because from a concept level it sounds kick ass. The only thing that got me through it (vs walking out) was some nice eye candy.
To each his own I guess.

I'm mixed on the movie. I thought the story felt kind of rushed and underdeveloped. I would like some kind of prequel of how they built elysium and how it came to be. the the world was overpopulated angle was a good concept, but it just felt rushed. I love jodie foster, but her acting performace was pretty bad in my opinion. I did love the look and feel of the movie. I thought the special effects were pretty decent, but nothing mind blowing. Overall I did'nt think it was bad,but nothing special.
Excellent movie one of the best I have seen for the year, I highly recommend. Most of the people that try to paint it as a bad film do it because of the message it sends, and not the actual film itself as I have seen from reading reviews , because it would rub some people the wrong way and take them out of their comfort zone.
