Forums - Movies & TV - Go See Elysium! Its awesome!

yeah... i think i will pass on the statist/communist/progressives wet dream of a movie

and as expected it is underperforming at the box office.

it cant even get more sales than District 9 which had no star studded cast, had no brand awareness, little marketing, and a tiny budget. this Movie had Matt Damon, Jodie Foster, tons of marketing, big budget, the director is known now, and ticket prices have gone up in the past 4 years.

I hated District 9...

Funny enough, as a South African myself, I cant stand the accent in movies. -_-

I'll probably like this more :D

It would have to be great to beat that gem

Well, same director. Although we all know what happened to the one of The Sixth Sense...

Well, the last sci-fi film I watched was Oblivion. I'm pretty sure this has to be better than that, at least.

I didn't realise it was the same director. I hope he has a similar approach with this film. I found District 9 really refreshing.

District 9, by the same director, was superb, so I'm definitely hyped for Elysium.

I'll wait for DVD though; I almost never see movies at the pictures these days, with a few extra-special exceptions. (see my sig/avatar, haha)

I would tell you guys the premise but I dont want to ruin it. I am gushing right now. This is what I want out of Sci-fi a proper plot and excecution with surprises. Its better than District 9 imho.

All I have to say is

Matt Damon

And Jodie Foster is one believable female villain.

Saw it. It was okay. I honestly couldn't get into it even though I wanted to. All of the characters who were in the spotlight felt bland to me. The only one I had any emotional investment in was a little girl who had a couple of lines in the entire movie. At a little over halfway through I just wanted the movie to end so I could leave the theater. I probably would have had I not been with friends. It wasn't worth the price for a movie ticket. It was a rental at best in my opinion.

Just because it's by the same director does not mean you should automatically compare it to District 9. I have not seen the movie yet (going next week), I know that I would like it since I enjoyed most of the movies already that came out. And critics aren't that bad. It has a 60 on metacritic and that is pretty decent lately. So just go without to much expectations.

Btw, after the bad White House Down from Sony Pictures this one must profit. After Earth was a mediocre movie which only doubled the investment thanks to foreign sales. The Smurfs 2 Has made it's mony back in a few weeks and will probably double as well. It seems like a mediocre year for Sony Pictures. This is the end did quite good and Grown Ups 2 which is a horrible movie sells well. Mortal Instruments will probably reach a lot of females soon just like the One Direction movie.

Can't wait for next years Spider-Man 2. Every bit of info from Comic-con got me excited and I'm not the only one. At least we have some awesome series this year like Breaking Bad.
