This is exactly right, Marks. We used to have immigrants show English proficiency and demonstrate knowledge of our history and culture. Now we bend over backwards to let them bring the same culture that failed in their own country here. Makes no sense to me.

If there weren't welfare states, immigration wouldn't be a problem. People who succeed and adapt would come and stay, and people who fail will return to their homeland and try again. It is meritocratic. With the welfare states, this is not the case.

My biggest concerns is many don't pay taxes, many take advantage of public benefits, and it appears our legal system doesn't properly deal with them if they commit crimes.

Well a lot of this is more cultural issues. Many people are guilty of that and are citizens.

I'm fine with people who get married to become a citizen. Its shady, but if you can only blame the government for making a loophole that can easily be taken advantage of.

Immigration issue shouldn't even be one. Everything an illegal immigrant buy supposedly he/she's paying tax on it.
Income taxes are one of the biggest heist humanity ever pulled to finance the few(kings and other oligarchs).
The folks at Wall Street gamble so much illegal money over there that could help US get out of recession probably 10 times.
Bunch of Bernie Madoves pulling stick ups on American people everyday and were here talking about people that come here to work for a decent living.
I'd rather have a social welfare state then corporate welfare state. A fascist state that take our hard earned money to buy useless B-2 bombers instead of investing in more students and infra-structures to help society thrive in this shaky economy.

It's the concept of people coming here illegally and not paying income tax, but receiving free public education, free public transportation, and getting food stamps, while not even having social security numbers.

Meanwhile, millions are waiting to come here legally, but cannot because our immigration system is too complicated and bureaucratic, and takes too long. Nevertheless, it's not right for people waiting in line, who are playing by the rules, to have to wait years to come here, while others simply walk in and bypass the entire system.

You think only illegal immigrants don't pay taxes and receive benefits? Would it matter if they paid taxes anyway for the amount of money they get a year?

There's no way to collect from them.  They're undocumented, as they're here illegally.  That's the whole problem.

I agree about border security.  We should bring everyone back from Korea, Germany, and Japan, and elsewhere around the world, and re-open some of the domestic bases we've closed, and perhaps open some new ones.  Sprinkled along the southern border.  Take care of our own borders instead of worrying about others'.

What about the "legal" delinquents that get away with way more than illegals? We had a president candidate that was reluctant on releasing his tax papers.

I agree.  I think the American people have had the wool pulled over their eyes for a long time.  Voting for crooked politicians that get elected to preserve the status quo and grow the size (thereby the wealth and power) of the government.  That's why I don't support either of the two major parties during elections.  Or watch cable news.
