Holy fuck, john lucas is back!
I wonder if the only other guy who was more, say, optimistic than you will return too..the '300 million Wiis sold (or was it 400?,,500?..lol)' guy, Avinash.

Wow, I've heard of the legend, but this indeed does blow the mind. Excellent, worthy-of-legend OP.
I can actually agree with a lot of stuff in there, even if I've already forgotten most of it because it was such a long read, especially the 7th gen analysis is quite good.
Don't fully agree with the final conclusion about the final course of the 8th gen though. I don't think Nintendo will return to such a dominant position again, except if the industry crashes once more. They would survive because of their policies, I'm with you there. I think Sony and MS are playing it with a little more competence this time around though. If third parties do the same, we should at least survive another generation. I see Sony in a strong position as of now, because they pretty much have done everything right up until now. Could be way different of course after the holiday season, who knows. WiiU's current predicament is known, but I also believe there are still plenty chances to turn it around. For the record, I think WiiU will end in 2nd place at the end of the generation with a 60m-ish lifetime number and Jan14 sales should be at 7m, which is fine.

Why? I feel like that kid in school not understanding the joke. Is it just because he wrote a lot, it's pro Nintendo, or what? |
I just had a good time reading it.

I have this co-worker at my job. Late 20s big time gamer. Console of choice is currently the XBox 360. There was some mishap with the contest & his Vita was tied up in red tape. I buy my 3DS in the middle of June this year. On my lunch break my co-worker comes in while I'm messing around with my 3DS & DSi. Once so anticipating of Vita, now so enthused of the 3DS & all because of a little 3D boat...and Monster Hunter. He's currently excited about the XBox One but Monster Hunter will probably bring him over to Wii U side too. The audience is there, DialgaMarine, & the fun part is most of them don't even know it. |
I see where you're going with this, but I find impossible that anything out there can unify the entire games industry. The model that is currently in place is the same one that has been in place since the days of the Atari 2600 and the Magnavox Odyssey. Different platforms will always different experiences to cater to different people's different tastes. Mabye I'm misunderstanding what you're saying, but it sounds like you're say that Wii-U will offer the ideal gaming experience and everyone will flock to the console, completely abandonning the likes of Playstation and Xbox, all because the Wii-U happens to offer certain games that they don't. Problem is, Playstation and Xbox have that same advantage. Not only that, Next gen seems to be primarily revolving around them while the Wii-U is seemingly getting the short end of the stick in terms of next gen gens (especially from third party). Nintendo might have a wonderful vision about the industry, but they lack the console and genuine experience to back that up. Different gamers have different tastes in what they're looking for. It's why we have fanboys. No one console will ever completely dominate the others, especially not Wii-U.
If you don't mind replying again, please tell what I'm missing from your statement. Mabye I'm just confused. Me personally, I don't hate the Wii-U. I'm extremely disappointed in Nintendo, as they seem to have lost their way from made them a huge name in the first place.

It doesn't even have that strong of a first party library right now. It could be doing a lot better if Nintendo had already released Mario Kart 7, a better 3d mario as well as the 2d mario, and Zelda and other titles. |
This could end up making a big difference, and be harmful long term. The Wii U has to be part of the development set that the ONE and PS4 have, or it isn't going to get the next gen third party stuff. And if those titles do sell, the U will get left behind. As of now, third party is not jumping on it, and only doing current gen stuff on it, if that.
Nintendo is facing stuff like this: http://www.joystiq.com/2013/08/06/wii-u-not-on-bethesdas-short-term-radar/
Bethsoft sites capabilities of the Wii U as a major reason.

I'd go with Nintendo-evangelism. A state of mind which goes above all and transcends logic. A true beleiver, if you will. |
And now, the words "Mario Monks" dances in my head.
this^^ and 50¢ crap eatin grin isn't a dignified response. What i love is how all the very vocal Wii U haters (i say that in the nicest way cuz we love you guys) are so tight lipped in this thread!!! You can't say nothing because you got nothing.

I don't know, I'd remind people that John really just got one prediction right out of quite a few Don't think he ever said anything correct when it came to the PS3, and he over estimated Wii for every prediction after that initial one. Sure he could end up right here, but it'll just mean that what he wanted to happe actually occured and not that he has any amazing predictive abilities. I've always had the impression that John starts with the conclusion he wants and works backwards to bring evidence for what might be able to make that happen, and that's the essence of a biased and useless opinion when it comes to predictions. Nothing I've seen since that initial impression has made me think any differently about him.
