Forums - Gaming - does the X1's 180 prove that Sony has the better vision for the gaming industry?

it shows that sony had the more popular vision for the hardcore people who preorder consoles or buy them very early. people who would be also fine if the next gen consoles would be exactly the same as this and last gen just with better specs. ps4 and xb1 could be without game recording and so on and most people in interent forums would be still excited just because of the bigger ram and whatever.

if that is also the better strategy for the mass market has to be seen. i am not sure about it.

what are you guys talking about? exactly the same but with better specs? what was so different about the xbox one? the DRM policies? the online checks? i really dont understand, they inserted tons of limitations and what was so great?! what the family sharing?! you do realize that the PS4 has superior game sharing features then the xbox one and before the 180 as well right? on the xbox one you could share your games with 10 people (digitaly) as long as the other users were online. on the PS4 you can do the exact same thing with ANYBODY! whats the difference? that microsoft called it an amazing feature?

but again what was so great about the original xbox one? they had a digital future in mind certainly, but one that takes you there kicking and screaming and one that puts all these limitations infront of you. what can the xbox one do that the PS4 cant? ask me now what can the PS4 do and the xbox cant as well, and ill tell you

Yes, it means just that.

Although it's not so much because of what Sony does is good, they are basically just keeping things the way they are or make them worse (i.e. online multiplayer now behind a paywall too). In other words, Microsoft's vision was disastrously bad.

No, it proves Nintendo has the better vison for the gaming industry.

does it really? because the vision nintendo has with the WiiU doenst seem to be resonating with gamers at all.

The vision isnt exactly wrong. They were preparing for a digital future.

What was wrong, was the execution. Rather than easing into it they went full on, aiming the console at the high-end consumer and ignoring a large part of the market that made the 360 do so well. They introduced exciting new features, that were simply restrictions.

The ball was in their court. They fucked up. The consumer let them know through preorder numbers. They had to change, to stay relevant.

Sony have the same vision, its just Sony are easing into it with PS Plus.

Sonys a hardware and format brand so its easier for them to create newer hardware and swap the formats on the fly because they are always creating new ones. Best thing about that is that they tend to streamline formats connecting the videogame market to the physical media market. Microsoft cannot be a market leader without the industry going full internet/software. It was shunned for a reason because that is what Microsoft is and theres no easy way to ease people around the world into that.

What do I care about the prelaunch? Dude...you're a gamer. besides...whats the name of this topic anyway? I forgot.

Idk, you're the one who called it the "worst prelaunch ever".

And are you not a gamer? So you're a gamer... all these policies you hated have been changed. You can stop complaining about them now. It will make you a happier person.

The topic of the thread pertains to Sony potentially having a better vision for the gaming industry because they are simply sticking to the status quo that all 3 companies utilized this gen, and that Nintendo is already utilizing before Sony even launches into next gen. You're saying Sony is more in touch with gamers because they take things away from gamers after launch in order to more quickly reach a slim model or some hilarious horse crap.

This is how you listen to consumers (video below) Jack Tretton explains and reponds to the questions about the difference of times in understanding phase changes in the market and when its right to move forward. Also, understanding why a relationship with Gamestop is great for gamers. Son y has an edge as a hardware developer and the issue with Microsoft that you can easily see with the Xbone is that they are trying to usher us into an internet software sharing dependent world where our PC's are. By doing that they I don't really think they understood their consumer base because they cut their market down a peg by laying down a debilitating amount of downloads on their consumer with an internet dependent product.

The point is internet is important and yes they helped us see how it works, but the world is not ready for it. A small fraction of the world are ready for it and I am not just talking about people who have internet. The workload the internet download Xbone would need to realize its dream would be huge, so yes it would need to be on 24 hours, but the policies Microsoft had to overturn one by one were all ridiculous and totally anti-gamer.

This.

Microsofts original policies were so bad they made Sony look amazing at E3 just by doing what they've always done with used games and no internet check ins.

Sony also played it extremely well by dodging the question up till that point and making everyone think they were going to implement something similar.  This E3 is the most lobsided affair I've seen in gaming and they only had to show 1 of their games from the Worldwide Studios.  That means they saved game reveals for a later date (Gamescom and TGS) while also winning E3.  It's a genius PR stunt that really paid off.

Quite the opposite!

Ex Graphics Whore.

To be fair Xbox one was because trying to stream but without the sales. Ps4 wasn't doing anything that was shaping the future that Xbox followed. So, no.

Sony dodged no questions. Yoshida has been answering questions about the PS4 since february. People were speculating because the Xbone was rumored since about that time to be always online and trying to use DRM. Then that "microsoft employee" opened his mouth and said basically "who gives a crap if its always online" and the internet went nuts. All Sony did was understand their consumerbase. Thats not really that hard. Microsoft ignored their userbase and went to create a lockdown internet dependent console that the majority of their consumerbase was just not ready for and the policies only got worse from there. What Sony did didnt take a rocket scientist. Push the changes, just wait until the time is right. This was obviously not the time.

Yes, no doubt about it, Sony is just a brilliant company, non-innovation is the way to go. Thats why the ps3.5 or as many others like to call it the ps4 is such an amazing machine.

Silly Bear, its the XBOXOne80

and the PS4.5GB

clearly you haven't been on GAF enough.

PSP Lifetime more than PSV+3DS Lifetime.

To the OP, Sonys vision was not about what the future is because these are times where the market just needs an upgraded and functional console. When our internet capabilities at home get better around the gaming world then we'll all be ready. Again, they weren't trying to be the future, they just realized where consumers sit and that was much appreciated by fans and Microsoft had to back peddle to where Sony is to get in our good graces. Listening to your consumer base is key.
