Forums - Nintendo - [edit]Wonderful 101, why are so many people saying its racist?

Is it racist?

No! 151 84.36%

yea, a little 28 15.64%

Total:179

I had no problem with the first African American Power Ranger being black and aside from joking on the matter, no Asians I met had a problem with the first yellow Power Ranger being yellow either. If anything, I am pleasantly surprised they included a person of color, not too many Japanese developers bother although some newer ones like Platinum have been more willing.

As long as Wonderblack doesn't act like Black Baron from MadWorld or Anarchy Reigns does most of the time, it ain't racist.

PDF: Now you took that WAY out of proportion. I thought they was upset because he's African-American, but he's indie. Black people can live anywhere they want in the world, there even black people who live in Japan.

Don’t follow the hype, follow the games

Here a little quote I want for those to keep memorize in your head for this coming next gen.

I'm still wondering how a well informed website like this bring YouTube rubbishes here.
Nevertheless, it's the typical Japanese portray of black characters in their games. I had the same sensation in Street Fighter IV, Binary Domain etc...
I don't think it's a big of a deal seriously to discuss this. That's the image they have about black people I assume. That's how it gets to them.

If any of the above were racist, it was the White Wonderful. That was the heaviest stereotype.

"We'll toss the dice however they fall,
And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."

I'd assume it's the intro where he does a break dance, same with Wonder Pink being a little sexist because they did a tits and ass shot. Now you can say, "well that's the individual character, Pink is a model so of course she does those kind of poses, and Black happens to be a break dancer" but as a first initial reaction it does seem a bit odd if nothing else.

edit: actually they can use that explanation on Black but not Pink since they do introduce a couple more women in that trailer and other than the communications officer briefly shown they all have intros like that.

Black still seems more nuanced than Pink: he's a breakdancing gamer.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

You should see the ridiculous black street fighter characters that came after SFIV. Everybody had a super power and power ups but a black busta had a basketball. Funny.

vernita green (aka copperhead: I shouldve been BLACK mamba

I think the word here is not racist but... I don't really know the word, must be "the bird".

I think it's stupid to bring the word racist in this case.

It's just stereotypical Japanese devs that have the same vision about black characters.

I think you meant Street Fighter 2 but yeah I remember them, so many black boxer thugs and Lucky  from the US Sports team in King of Fighter that was a basketball player and fought with a basketball. But I hope you don't mean my man Sean he was actually fun to use until the nerfed him in later editions.

Used to try to do Sean's Basketball taunt all day.
