Forums - Nintendo - The Wonderful 101's game Length, Structure, and more

In an interview with Platinum Games Hideik Kamiya and executive producer Atsushi Inaba, they discussed various aspects of action games, and The Wonderful 101.

Hideki Kamiya structures his games to a fashion you can play them your whole life.

“In regards to the action games I’ve been involved with, I’m more concerned about making a game you can enjoy your whole life, rather than a game you only play through once. I have action games that I still play to this day. It’s not about seeing the ending, but having fun playing the game. That’s the sort of game I’m interested in making, so I’m not into really talking about how long it will take to reach the ending, but…in terms of volume, [The Wonderful 101] actually has more than Bayonetta.”

Inaba is confident players will not be able to complete the game in one day.

“With normal action games, it isn’t impossible to clear a lot of them the very day you buy them. But with this game, that won’t be possible.”

Kamiya has built The Wondeful 101 to be full of surprises, discovery, and reply value.

“I’d like it if people could make discoveries and go, ‘Hey, I didn’t realize I could do this’ in the game and get hooked on it. You could say that the first time through the game is something like the tutorial, and the second time around is the actual game.”

Off-Tv play is supported in The Wonderful 101 because the team didn’t want to kill the main selling point fo the system.

“We didn’t want to kill the sales point that games can be played on just the Wii U GamePad. We’ve included the option of being able to play according to your play style.”

The Wonderful 101 seems like Platinum Games biggest Project ever, the team is busting it to get the game read for launch, says Kamiya.

“We’ve had more people and spent more time on development than ever before, and to have this volume, I’ve never had a homestretch be so hard.”

The Wonderful 101 will be getting a Nintendo Direct this Friday!

The game should be great, hopefully Nintendo advertise it so it doesn't flop in sales.

Can't wait to see the ND tomorrow.

Just out of interest, how long would a playthrough of Bayonetta take..? Have been holding off buying the 360 version because I'm hoping that someone at Sega has the good sense to port it to the Wii U as a budget title available to buy from the eShop exclusively.

It would be a no-brainer to do. It would be cheap to port over and even cheaper to self-publish due to not having the added cost of producing physical discs and packaging. Hopefully they're going to do that next year sometime before the release of Bayonetta 2.

I did my first playthrough on normal(or whatever is was called) difficulty and it took me around 10 hours to complete, but I didn't find every hidden thing in the game, so if you search all of its secrets( eg. altheim portals( I believe that's what they were called)) it should take a bit longer.
