Forums - Sales - Are the US preorders numbers for next-gen games predictive for next-gen console sales?

holy shit the pre orders of this week....

Yeah, I just saw that. I'm guessing there's just more PS4 bundles available.

Almost 80k in a week is still huge

Watch Dogs 20K? My god that is a lot of pre-orders!

Please tell me you aren't using VGCHARTZ pre-order data for this... also, Sony took a huge lead early on because of MS's mishandling of the Xbox One reveal and the price difference. I think they will be much closer by launch.

Not to mention casuals don't pre-order systems and MS are aligning the One to be more attractive to casuals/everyone besides just gamers. Actual sales will not directly reflect pre-orders.

Casuals dont buy systems at launch, especially not at 500 bucks.

I don't think basing your assumptions on such small numbers will give us any CLEAR indication to what will happen. We all know that both systems will sell out through February anyway. So, the sell through of any of the games will have more to do with the amount of systems that Sony and M$ put into the channel for sale. If one or the other puts out a huge amount more than other, the software sales will scale to match that number.

They do if marketed well, but regardless the launch window will be very close and tied directly to supply, not so much demand. After launch, the casuals will be doing more of the buying and I think Xbox One will have another strong advantage there.

So I felt like taking a look how things were going for the upcoming consoles and remembered this thread. Bumpy.

In the UK...

The standard PlayStation 4 is in 4th place right now and 3rd place for 2013

The Xbox One Day One Edition is in 9th place right now and 35th place for 2013

In America...

The launch edition PS4 isnt in the charts right now (sold out), but is in 3rd place for 2013
The standard PlayStation 4 is in 17th place right now and is in 40th place for 2013
The Watch_Dogs PS4 Bundle is in 18th place right now and is in 61st place for 2013
The Killzone Shadowfall PS4 bundle is in 37th place right now and isnt charting for 2013
The Battlefield 4 PS4 bundle isnt in the charts right now but is in 76th place for 2013

The Xbox One Day One Edition isnt in the charts right now (sold out), but is in 6th place for 2013
The standard Xbox One is in 52nd place right now and isnt charting for 2013

In France...

The standard PlayStation 4 is in 3rd place right now and is in 18th place for 2013

The Xbox One Day One is in 51st place right now and hasnt charted for 2013

In Germany...

The Standard PlayStation 4 is in 2nd place right now and 1st place for 2013
The Driveclub PS4 Bundle is in 1st place right now but not charting for 2013

The Xbox One Day One Edition is in 10th place right now and it is in 16th place for 2013

Granted, these chart positionings were from Amazon... But if anyone here can show me a better, more reliable chart to go by then go ahead

I dont think they will outsell the Xbox One by 2x, but I think they will fairly easily win the 2013 battle.

Nice work. i wonder if the PS4 can hold on to America for launch, it seems to have the rest in the bag.

Well, aside from the VGChartz charts, we only have Amazon charts where the PS4 is running away with it and has been since E3. The lead is growing, its not shrinking and it wont be closer by launch.

It wasnt reveal that caused the main problems for Xbox One. We had reports of record breaking preorders afterall. It was what followed. They were fairly even until E3, with the One arguably winning... But since we saw both conferences, things have been all PS4, even after the 180.

You talk about the casual market in both of your posts.

What exactly does the One offer to the expanded market, that makes it worth the $500 asking price? Expecially when compared to the competition? Kinect? TV stuff

In any case, i am very excited at the ps4 pre orders numbers and if sony can make the sales of the ps4 at least tie the X1 in the US, they can see the outcome as an accomplish mission.

It seems as though your opinions are not based upon logical deductions but mere wishful thinking.

Tell me, why do you care how well XBO sells?
