Forums - Sales - Are the US preorders numbers for next-gen games predictive for next-gen console sales?

It's somewhat unclear how the next-gen preorders are doing relatively to each other.  It's probably assumed that PS4 is outselling Xbox1 in the US right now, but there are no solid numbers to back this up.  Only biased info from MS or Sony are released stating that their pre-orders are doing well.

However, the PS4 game pre-orders are substantially outpacing the Xbox1 versions.  Battlefield 4 has twice the total pre-orders on PS4 compared to Xbox1, but this week, the PS4 BF4 outsold Xbox1 BF4 by almost 5 to 1.  Watch Dog PS4 is dominating Watch Dog Xbox1.  Most games are doing better on PS4 with the exception of COD Ghosts.  COD Ghosts Xbox1 barely edged PS4 version this week, but total preorders are still bigger for the PS4.

Currently, looking at the pre-orders for the next-gen games, it seems that PS4 console sales will almost double Xbox1 consoles sales (barring any manufactoring supply issues).

no

BF4 and WatchDogs are bundled with the PS4 and they were the only options left for people interested in getting a PS4 from Amazon. Hence the BF4 numbers being higher last week. PS4 will obviously outsell the XBox One until next fall at a minimum when I believe the X1 will get a price drop to $399. Fall 2014 will be the interesting holiday. This holiday both consoles will sell out so if PS4 has more stock than it will obviously outsell the X1.

How do you know the PS4's games are out paceing the Xbone's?

So I felt like taking a look how things were going for the upcoming consoles and remembered this thread. Bumpy.

In the UK...

The standard PlayStation 4 is in 4th place right now and 3rd place for 2013

The Xbox One Day One Edition is in 9th place right now and 35th place for 2013

In America...

The launch edition PS4 isnt in the charts right now (sold out), but is in 3rd place for 2013
The standard PlayStation 4 is in 17th place right now and is in 40th place for 2013
The Watch_Dogs PS4 Bundle is in 18th place right now and is in 61st place for 2013
The Killzone Shadowfall PS4 bundle is in 37th place right now and isnt charting for 2013
The Battlefield 4 PS4 bundle isnt in the charts right now but is in 76th place for 2013

The Xbox One Day One Edition isnt in the charts right now (sold out), but is in 6th place for 2013
The standard Xbox One is in 52nd place right now and isnt charting for 2013

In France...

The standard PlayStation 4 is in 3rd place right now and is in 18th place for 2013

The Xbox One Day One is in 51st place right now and hasnt charted for 2013

In Germany...

The Standard PlayStation 4 is in 2nd place right now and 1st place for 2013
The Driveclub PS4 Bundle is in 1st place right now but not charting for 2013

The Xbox One Day One Edition is in 10th place right now and it is in 16th place for 2013

Granted, these chart positionings were from Amazon... But if anyone here can show me a better, more reliable chart to go by then go ahead

I dont think they will outsell the Xbox One by 2x, but I think they will fairly easily win the 2013 battle.

It is indicative of the fact that the PS4 will at worst tie with the X1 in the US which wins Sony wins.

No since we have no idea if people are getting more then one game. For all we know the ppl getting bf4 are the only ones getting watch dogs

I'm using the VGChartz US pre-order numbers.  Not sure how accurately they are.

Yeah, I just saw that. I'm guessing there's just more PS4 bundles available.
