Forums - Nintendo - How much would Nintendo's "dead" IPs sell if they made a return?

just asking, but wat is successful? Anyway Ice Climbers would have to be a new thing if it ever was to come for sure, but to say leave it there, c'mon!!!!!!! Some People like to see the Ice Climbers make a comeback.

A very successful IP sells multiple millions of copies and gets people to buy the hardware. It isn't something that has to leg past the one million mark.

In all my time here on VGC I have never seen a single person say that Ice Climbers was a good game. The only people who ask for a comeback are young gamers who only know the IP from SSBB and have no idea what the game actually is. They just assume that Ice Climbers is cool, because the rest of the cast in the SSB games comes from good games (except Solid Snake and Mr. Gayman Watch).

Honestly, I think Ice Climbers could be made into a good, successful game if the genre itself is changed.  They could still go for what the name implies and climb up an icy mountain.  However, what if they change it into an action adventure game kind of like Zelda, but different?  They could probably incorporate some kind of story based off of the old game and create some kind of goal for the top and make it some kind of open-world experience that is semi-guided so people don't get too off track for the end goal of the game.  Since they have hammers, it could be used for smashing rocks/ice covering entrances to caverns that help you proceed in the game.  I mean... I think it's possible to make the game interesting.

Give what number you think sequels or reboots in the following franchises would sell:

Star Fox- best case scenario, series sees a successful reboot out of it's one dimensional origins, releases after wii-u is more established and sees 7million sales. Worst case it sees something like assault and sells 150k.

Ice Climbers- best case scenario, ice climbers are given a third person adventure in a charming world and sees 2mill plus. worst case it receives an hd remake and sells around 20k in digital sales

1080- best case, digital release of an hd upgrade of some sort. sells 100k. worst case it sees a retail release and sells 20k

Mother series- Again i think the best thing for this series is to release a retro type sequel on the eshop and sells equal to earthbound. i think if they tried to reboot this series it wouldn't do well in the u.s.

F-Zero- Yet again i think this could be a strong downloadable game, but a retail version probably would only do 50k.

personally i'd love to see a new eternal darkness above all other "dead" games.

those are just my thoughts

Ice Climbers would be the most interesting to bring back, wonder how it could work.

I think Star Fox could be as popular as some of Nintendo's "B-tier" franchises like Metroid, Kirby, Fire Emblem, etc. if it was handled correctly with a high quality new installment.

Diddy Kong Racing is another franchise that Nintendo has that they're probably sleeping on too. A new DKR for 3DS I can probably see happening for 2014 or 2015.

Wave Race should be given another go on Wii U IMO (imagine the water physics!). No one's really making that type of game anymore.

F-Zero and Advance Wars should return but as digital download titles only. They don't have the steam to hack it as retail titles, but could find a decent sized audience as digital releases. Lets say $29.99 for a new F-Zero with Wii-level assets, 720p resolution, 30 player online, 8 new tracks, 8 "classic" tracks, 60 fps, with future downloadable tracks.

I'd be down for that.

I like ur idea about F-Zero, let Shin'en work on it.

Earthbound isn't "dead" but it's been a while.

Anyways, if they released a new Earthbound game for Wii U..it'd be an interesting Holiday.

Shin'en could do it I suppose, but I'd rather maybe just get a small team of EAD designers, with some of the younger staff working on it overseen by a few EAD vets.

A new Earthbound for 3DS I think could work. Wii U with a small userbase/higher budget probably isn't a great fit though, but 3DS with an install base north of 60 million in a couple of years ... yeah sure.

It's a unique kind of property that probably was ahead of its time back in the 90s, but today I think something with that type of humor/charm could find some more traction nowadays.

Wave Race - Wii U (retail); NST or another Western dev.

F-Zero - Wii U (eShop only) $29.99

Punch-Out! - 3DS (retail); Next Level Games

Luigi's Mansion 3 - Wii U (retail); Next Level Games

Star Fox - Wii U (retail); Platinum Games or Retro Studios

Earthbound - 3DS (retail); Nintendo

Kid Icarus - Wii U (retail); Platinum Games + Sakurai if Star Fox is a no go

Wario platformer - 3DS (retail); Japanese studio.

Diddy Kong Racing Returns - 3DS (retail); Monster Games?

Advance Wars - 3DS; eShop only.

Would be how I'd divvy up the currently unknown Nintendo IP. I'd probably give Mistwalker another shot with a new RPG too.

A couple million for each. Nintendo's franchises generally do well.
