Forums - Nintendo - Asda: We do support Nintendo, despite Wii U drop

Grocery giant Asda dropped Wii U from its shelves in order to support more successful consoles, including 3DS.

The supermarket firm called MCV to say that, contrary to reports, it had never stocked Wii U in its 555 stores, and in fact the console was only available in around 100 outlets.

It also firmly denied that it was dropping 3DS, and has in fact increased its support for the handheld.

The company's games boss told us that Wii U will continue to play a part in its online offering, despite being currently unavailable. The machine is temporarily unavailable on Asda Direct because of a £100 price cut, which has caused the console to sell out, he says.

It's still a blow to Wii U. But Asda has reiterated its support for Nintendo and hopes sales will improve, although has no plans to stock Wii U again this year.

3DS current online unavailability is also due to a recent price promotion, the supermarket claims.

Asda added that consumers can still order Wii U online and pick it up in store via the firm's Click and Collect service.

I think somebody misunderstand the previous Asda reports... because they were only about Wii U... of course Asda support Nintendo.

Just not Wii U anymore... they won't make more orders of that console and the units in stock will be sold online... no physical store will have Wii U available.

To be honest, they didn't really support the U in the first place. But it's just business, eh?

It is and I can blame Asda because I think they based the "orders" in what they sell more... if the Wii U is not selling the X volume then it is a waste of money for them to mantain stock to it... business like you said.

And they supported Wii U... they have units to sell yet but they won't make more orders to Nintendo this year... I can't see that changing in next year too.

He says:  They had the Wii-u in 100 of it's 550 shops in about 10 month..

He also says that you can bye them online (like it had been in the 450 from start) and pick it up in any of the 550 stores..

Last he says that they have no intention to chance that this year.. NOT that they wont get more wii-u shiments from nintendo this year.. ? offcourse they will.. do you think they order home to the hole year

And mayby this is the price, for direct full game download.. and i bet ps4 and x1, will surfer for the "retailers may end up only make money on the console" too

Shud we start a petition to get it back on shelves?

Why that makes no sense, if someone really wants a console they could just order it. No big deal.

Just a question.. Do they still sell vita's in their stores?
